Wayne L. Burget
February 19, 1925 ~ May 17, 2021
"On February 19, 1925, a special event occurred. The eighth child was born to the family of Ray and Flossie Burget, who lived in a small town in Northeastern Indiana, called Columbia City. This was close to Fort Wayne, which gave them the idea to call me Wayne."
"At the age of fifteen we started attending a Christian Church, and a preacher came every other Sunday morning. One Sunday night when the pastor gave the invitation to come forward to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior, I was the first one to move. I was strongly convicted of my sins and realized I needed a Savior. That changed my life, and I became a regular attendee at church, and the Young Peoples Group. "
He graduated from Monticello High School in 1943 and then joined the Marine Corp. He served until December 24, 1945. Twenty-seven months of that service were spent in the South Pacific.
He met Barbara Price at a church valentine party. They dated for a year and got married February 16, 1947, in South Bend, Indiana. They were married 67 years when Barbara passed in July 2014.
They moved to Englewood, Colorado in 1951 and in 1952 they joined First Christian Church of Englewood which is now known as Englewood Bible Church.
He became an associate member of the Gideons in 1952 and full fledge in 1953. He helped in the distribution of Gideon Testaments at colleges and universities in Colorado. He also helped to update Gideon Bibles in motels and hotels.
At Englewood Bible Church he served as treasurer, president of the YCL class, deacon, and usher. In addition to this he served as custodian along with Eldon Pritzel and many others who worked on plumbing, heating, air conditioning and the boiler, etc.
For both the Gideons and Englewood Bible Church he was a faithful prayer warrior.
