Robert Scott Messler

February 19, 1963 – March 28, 2022

Robert Scott Messler was born in Omaha, Nebraska to Robert and Marilyn Messler.  He attended the local schools in Hastings and after graduation he studied at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln.  Scott majored in music at UNL and became the drum line director for the Nebraska Cornhusker’s Marching Band.  Scott was a dedicated husband, father, and a  man who lived his life serving others.  He used his love and passion for music to serve his community.

Scott was a gifted drummer and musician.  His band, Open Space, brought the joy of music to  Evergreen, CO.  by playing at many local events and establishments.  Scott produced  the Evergreen Lake House Summer Concert Series for seven years.  He also produced the sound for the annual Summer Fest.   He volunteered for many community events such as Polar Plunge, Special Olympics and the Evergreen Symphony.  He was  always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.  He was the “Sound guy” of Evergreen.  He was SO loved by everyone that knew him.  Another passion of Scott’s was his love for Sailing.  He had a boat named Aksarben for several years on Y-Dock in Long Beach, CA.  He loved his boating community and being on Y-Dock with his family.  Those were some of the happiest times of his life.  He was an amazing captain and sailed in the largest International Sailboat Race, the Newport to Ensenada Race, seven times.

His infectious smile brought comfort to many.  He is survived by his wife, Karen Messler, his son, Jack, and daughter, Jordan. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Messler, and survived by his mother, Marilyn Messler, brother, Curtis Messler, sister Kris Twitchell and her husband, David, and nephew, Noah.  Scott may no longer be with us but his music and passion will forever play in the hearts of those who loved him.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I am so very sorry for your loss. Scott made high school band percussion section so much fun. My favorite memory was a song that had too many percussion parts for the number of kids we had playing. There was supposed to be a gong in the middle somewhere, Scott timed it perfectly to fling the mallet at the gong so that it hit at the exact moment it was supposed to. He brought laughter and smiles wherever he went. My prayers for peace and comfort are with you all.

  2. This is so sad to hear about my former classmate and friend. I have so many musical memories with him. The one that sticks out most is when Scott and I made the madrigals as freshman. We were still in jr high when we tried out so the high school madrigals came to get us at jr high! We were so cool. Such a fantastic guy. So sorry for your loss. Kristy Thomas Ehlers. Class of 1981.
