Angelina H. "ANGIE" Hays

May 29, 1950 ~ February 6, 2015
Angelina Hays (Barajas) was born on May 29, 1950 to Alfred and Louise Barajas, in Long Beach, California. Angie was the third child of six, her oldest sister Freda, Brother Alfred, followed by, Adam (deceased), Leroy (deceased) and Rita (deceased). Her family moved to Colorado due to her mom's asthma. She attended Lake Middle School and West High School, leaving school to work at the age of 16 to assist her mother in providing for the family. She met Manuel in 1967 as his secretary, where he was an outreach Director of the Youth Center. Although Manuel had played football with her brother Alfred and her father was Manny's Boy Scout leader, they had never met until then. Angie married Manny at the age of 18. Since Manny was not 21, he had to get permission from his parents to marry Angie. They were married on March 8, 1969. They move to Pueblo where they lived for 4 years while Manny attend the University of Southern Colorado College. They had their first child Danette Hays-Lake in 1971. They moved to Denver and had their second daughter Rene Gallegos in 1972. In 1975 they had their son, Manny Hays II. Angie was a police wife for 31 years. During the early years she worked at the Tariff Bureau for the Government and then as the Front-end Manager at Lionel Play World Toys. Before she retired she worked with Michael Boling at Farmers Insurance, as the Office Manager. She enjoyed being at home after her kids graduated from college and became the loving and devoted grandmother of 8: Ethan (17), Elijah (13), Tanner (11), Danae (11), Emery (7), Kaydin (5), Jesse (3), Joshua (19 months). Angie was diagnosed with Liver Cancer in 2010 and placed on the Liver-Transplant List. In September of 2011 she was taken off of the list, due to her no longer meeting the requirements. However, the doctors wanted to monitor the cancer and ordered one last CAT Scan. That CAT Scan came back and showed the cancer had receded and was put back on to the transplant list. On November 22, 2011 at 4:30 a.m. she received the phone call from Anschutz Medical Center informing her that they had a liver for her. She hung up on them because she felt someone was playing a cruel joke on her. They called back and told her don't hang up, this is really the cancer center and we have a liver for you. How quickly can you get here? Angie and Manny lived 45 minutes away and were able to both shower and arrive at the hospital within half an hour. Angie was prepped and ready at 10:30 a.m. with her loving family and friends around her. At 4:30 p.m. they announced the transplanted liver was inserted. At 9:30 p.m. she was brought into the recovery room. Two weeks later a pathology work up on her cancerous liver was performed and it was found to be fully engulfed with cancer. The doctor stated they couldn't understand what covered up the cancer on the CAT Scan, but good for her, she has a new liver. We know the truth. Angie was blessed with two years of being cancer free. In October of 2013 she was diagnosed for the second time with Liver Cancer. This time it was inoperable. She had 3 additional Chemo-Embolization operations to no avail. In April of 2014 she was informed that there was nothing more that the doctors could do. She choose to fulfill some things on her bucket list. She entered home hospice care in November of 2014 until she peacefully passed on February 6, 2015. She was surrounded by her husband, kids, grandkids, brother and sister. The moment she took her last breath on this earth, she was given new breath in her new home with the Lord, Hallelujah!!!
