William Raymond McCaslin
1926 - 2016
William Raymond McCaslin passed away at his home in Englewood, CO on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the age of 89. He was born September 3, 1926 in Omaha, NE to Robert & Mary (Steiner) McCaslin.
William was raised in Omaha, NE and joined the Navy on his 17th birthday during the height of World War II. William served in the Navy until April 1946 as an Aviation Boatswain's Mate, with the majority of his time spent on the USS Saginaw-Bay Aircraft Carrier....which earned five battle stars in just over a 12 month period during the tail end of WWII.
After his time in the Navy, William met his beloved wife Mary Agnus Ruzich and they were married on March 12, 1949.
William and Mary moved to Englewood, CO in 1950, where they raised 5 boys to loving grown men. The home they lived in was also a great source of comfort, wisdom and sense of family to their grandchildren and great grandchildren and many friends.
William worked 41 hard years as part of the Train Crew for the Union Pacific Railroad. He worked his way from brakeman to conductor to the local chairman of Brotherhood of Railroad Trainman/United Transportation Union. After retiring from the railroad, William continued to "keep himself busy" (versus work) in various positions well into his 80's, including head chef, dishwasher & cashier at his son's cafe or as a custodian at local elementary schools.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his wife Mary Agnus McCaslin and his brothers George and Leonard.
William is survived by his five sons: Bob, Pat, Billy, Mike and John, five grandchildren: Tonja, Todd, Kelly, Kacey and Kyle; and six great-grandchildren.

Prayers for my family in this time. I love you all. We will miss him so much but his legacy and memories live on through all of us.
We are so sorry for your loss, and we want you to know that we will be praying for strength, peace, and comfort for your family during this time of sorrow. Only God can know what you are feeling in your heart now, and only He can restore your spirit. May each tear you shed return as a special blessing. We'll never forget your dad's wisdom, generosity and graciousness. He was truly a man of strength and character.
Rejoicing that Bill is at his eternal home with Mary. John 3:16
Bill was a wonderful family man, a true patriot and one of the most fun guys to be with ever. Who else could give a first hand account of a kamikaze attack and host a party like Johnny Carson. He was also the smartest unlettered man I ever met. By that I mean he didn't have any formal degrees, but in his position as Local Chairman, he essentially practiced law defending his member clients in a variety of proceedings. Talking with him about this was no different than talking with Denver's finest trial lawyers. He was respected by management and employees up and down the Union Pacific line. We will miss him. He and Mary were a great team. Our best to the family.
I am very sorry for your loss. Billy was a great guy to work with and lot of good times with him. May he rest in peace.
I knew Bill from Wildcat Mountain Elementary. He would clean my classroom and the school in the afternoon. He had a nickname for everyone. Mine was Hardball. He always asked about my kids and my husband. He gave great advice and had strong opinions that I admired. There was no whining with Bill. Look at the bright side and move on. I still miss seeing him. My condolences on your loss.
I was saddened to hear of Mr. McCaslin's passing. I grew up in that neighborhood with his boys and have a lot of fond memories of that family and the neighborhood and can confirm there was a lot of activity at that household. I want to express my sympathies.
Very sad today, Mike just left me a message with news of his Father's passing. Mr. McCaslin was a kick in the pants! I always looked forward to running into him when he was in the neighborhood, I enjoyed talking to him especially about politics and his views on the subject hit home with me and made me feel closer to my own father who had passed years before. I am sorry I hadn't seen you recently, would have loved to hear what you had to say about this coming election! Please protect us from you know who getting into office from above Sir, R.I.P. ( oh and please tell my Mama and Daddy how much I miss them) God's speed…
We are so sorry for your loss. Bill was a great person. A man of strength, courage and joy. He was loved by many, especially by the men he worked with on the railroad. I had so much respect for him. He will be missed, but he is happy now, his Heavenly Father took him home to be with his loving wife. I think he is looking down from heaven, saying guys. I will see you later.
Bob,
Sorry to hear about your father my prayers are with you and the family.
