William A. Fuchs

Bill Fuchs, 87, of Englewood, Colorado, passed away on April 8, 2015 in Porter Hospital, Denver Colorado with his family by his side.  He was born to Rose Allmann Fuchs and Albert Fuchs, October 18, 1927 in Bancroft, Iowa.  Bill graduated from Saint John’s Catholic High School in Bancroft, Iowa. He played baseball, basketball and the trumpet. He attended Saint Thomas College in Minneapolis, Minnesota for two years until his father died and he moved back to Bancroft to help run the family business.  He then built and ran a funeral home before moving to Colorado in 1961 and became a businessman.  He worked in insurance and estate planning.  He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and a member of The Million Dollar Club. He enjoyed working, studying, and staying current in all things relevant to financial planning.

He married the late Monica Mulligan Fuchs on December 29, 1951.  They were married for 57 years. They had six children: Kathy Huddleston (Mike), Judy Erfurdt, Mary Fox, Bill Fuchs (Dana), Bob Fuchs and John Fuchs (Liz). They had thirteen grandchildren. Kelly Huddleston, Zachary and Ryan Erfurdt, Kira and Erika Randolph, Dan, Matt and Nick Gotta, Joseph, Jeffrey and Jacob Fuchs, Alexandra and Johnny Fuchs, Bill and Monica were best friends.  They learned to golf together and enjoyed frequent golf destinations until Monica could no longer play.  They enjoyed family time and fishing at the cabin in Empire, Colorado.  They loved to attend their kids and grandkids sports activities.

He was a devout Catholic and loved going to mass with his son, Bob and grandsons and spending time together afterwards watching football or going out for dinner.  He was passionate about following politics and watching Fox News which he claimed was fair and balanced!  As his vision failed he grew to love books on tape, his daughter Kathy, ordered them from the Colorado Talking Book Library.  They discussed over 200 books that he listened to from 2008 until shortly before his death.

He served in the United States Navy at the end of World War II in 1946.

Inside family joke when his children were young……Bill fancied himself as Marshall Matt Dillon!  He would stand in front of the television blocking the view of the old western, Gunsmoke, until everyone said that he was Marshall Matt Dillon when he would finally take his seat.

During his past few years he was able to twice visit his late brother Bob and cousin Katherine Hall in Minneapolis. He relished those visits.

He will be greatly missed.

Happy Trails, Bill.

Guestbook

  1. Dear cousins, I loved reading the obituary that you wrote to honor your Dad.  And honor him you did.  He was so blessed to have each of you as part of his attentive family.  To echo what you wrote, happy trails Uncle Bill.  I will miss you. Molly

  2. Dear Judy and family, I an deeply saddened by your dear dad's passing. I liked and respected him so highly. And, as so often is the case, I long hoped ;that we might meet and visit each other again. Alas, I am so grounded in my assisted living situation, I could never get out for such a meeting. Even so, I will keep him (and your dear mom, too) in my prayers.

May God bless him greatly – – and all of you, too.

    Sincerely, Paul Lindsay

  3. Bob and family,

I just found out today (Saturday) your dad passed away. I hope it was peaceful. Thinking of you at this time.

    Kay

  4. Dear Kathy, Mike and Family,

It was lovely to read about your father, especially his sense of humor. We know he will be missed. Our wishes for comfort go out to your family. Keep all the great memories alive.

  5. Here's the eulogy given by grandkids Alexandra, Jeff and Joe Fuchs:

Bill(grandpa) was born on October 18, 1927 in Bancroft, Iowa. He graduated from Saint John's Catholic High School in Bancroft, Iowa. In high school, Grandpa played baseball, basketball and the trumpet. He loved music and had a great ear for picking out various instruments. He attended Saint Thomas College in Minneapolis, Minnesota for two years until his father died and he moved back to Bancroft to help run the family hardware store business.  Grandpa then built and ran a funeral home before moving to Colorado in 1961 and started work in insurance and estate planning.  He was a Chartered Life Underwriter and a member of The Million Dollar Club. Grandpa enjoyed working, studying, and staying current in all things relevant to financial planning.

Grandpa served in the United States Navy at the end of World War II in 1946.

Grandpa married grandma on December 29, 1951.  They truly were best friends and were married for 57 years. Grandpa always gave grandma a kiss before going to work and when he got home from work. Even after he retired from going into the office he kept business hours at his desk in the basement and Grandma always got a kiss before he started work.

Grandpa, grandma and my Dad John all learned to golf together. They loved the Saturday or Sunday morning golf outings at the Englewood golf course. These outings would frequently involve Grandpa, Grandma, Bill, Bob and John.

Grandpa and grandma loved family time at the cabin in Empire, Colorado. It was a frequent gathering place for everybody. Grandpa taught (my Dad) John to fish and they hiked all over the mountain and town.

He was a devout Catholic and loved going to mass with his son, Bob and grandsons and spending time together afterwards watching football or going out for dinner.

And speaking of football, Grandpa loved the Broncos and loved his Sunday afternoons over the past several years with Judy watching the games or movies during the off season. Grandpa was so thankful to have Mary come live with him for the last 6 months. It gave him the opportunity to be at the home he loved and have his daughter with him. Since grandma passed away, it was a family team effort to help grandpa – he loved that Bill would grocery shop and that Bob maintained the house and especially that Kathy handled all of his medical needs. As Grandpa's vision failed he grew to love books on tape. Aunt Kathy ordered them from the Colorado Talking Book Library and they discussed over 200 books that he listened to since 2008.

Grandpa was kind and compassionate, even tempered and patient … he had to be with 6 kids, 13 grandkids and 5 great grandkids. Both Grandpa and grandma loved to attend their kids and grandkids sports activities. Grandpa had a great memory, he remembered everybodies birthday and hobbies.

Grandpa was a “leisurely” eater (being truthful, he was very slow) Kira remembered that he said that when he went out for business lunches his associates would be finished eating before he had analyzed his first bite.

He was passionate about following politics and watching Fox News which he claimed was fair and balanced!

One of the fondest family memories……grandpa fancied himself as Marshall Matt Dillon!  He would stand in front of the television blocking the view of the old western, Gunsmoke, until everyone said that he was Marshall Matt Dillon when he would finally take his seat. Ever since that, the Marshall Matt Dillon jokes and references would frequently come up.

He will be greatly missed. Happy Trails, grandpa.
