Weldon Robert Cooley

Born October 19th 1926 Lincoln, Nebraska.
Died January 26th 2010 Denver, Colorado.
Mr. Cooley is survived by and remembered as Grandpa to Amanda, Alicia, Anna and Angelica Powell, as father to Suzanne Cooley Powell and father in law to Wayne J. Powell. Weldon who preferred to be called Bob was an avid photographer and do it yourselfer. His home reflected his interest in both by the display of craftsmanship and the photographs displayed.
Mr. Cooley served in the navy during world war two; his service from June 1944 to June 1946 was aboard the cruiser USS Tucson (CL-98) and the battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62) he served his country in the Asiatic-Pacific Area Earning Along with the cruiser Tucson his first battle star. He was a Radio Technician Striker aboard the New Jersey and was involved in the fleet communication of the day relative to the capitulation of Japan aboard the Missouri. He completed his naval reserve obligation from January 1947 to January 1952
Mr. Cooley Worked for the U.S. Government at the National Bureau of Standards as a photography print specialist, he was a member of the EL Jebel Shrine and served as a Chanter. He was active in the choir at Glen Randal United Methodist Church and was known to on occasion bring in a portable radio to listen to the Denver Broncos play, being sure to inform the pastor as to the score.
Bob was married to Merle Belle Cooley for 56 years. Mrs. Cooley preceded Mr. Cooley in death to be home with the Lord four years previous to his own passing. They are now together rejoined once again.
Memorial Service will be held at Bullock Mortuary Colonial Chapel Friday the 5th of February at 10:00 am. Viewing will be from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Internment will be at Ft Logan National Cemetery with naval honors at 11:30 am.
