Wayne was born on March 31, 1933 and passed away March 6, 2021, a few weeks shy of his 88th birthday.

He was born in Raton, New Mexico but his family soon moved to Monte Vista, Colorado. He was raised
in the Monte Vista/Sargent area. His family owned a potato farm, and Wayne worked hard on the farm
which made him decide he did not want to become a farmer when he grew up.
Wayne graduated from Sargent High School in 1951. Soon after graduating, Wayne moved to Denver,
Colorado. Wayne found jobs in the manufacturing and the moving industry until he began his career at
Colorado Central Power Company in 1955 as a meter reader. He then went on to work on the line crew,
and often told everyone that he built most of the lines in the Highland’s Ranch area. After the merger
with Public Service Company in the early 1960’s, he became a dispatcher with the substation
department. He continued to work his way up to the position Power Systems Operation Manager.
Wayne retired from Public Service with almost 40 years of service 1994.
He married the love of his life, Ellen Seibert, on August 10, 1952 and they were married over 68 years.
They had two daughters, Barbara “Bobbi” (Gary) Mastronardi and Patricia “Patti” (Robert) Heggen; four
grandchildren, Joel (Raven) Kershaw; Jared (Danielle) Kershaw; Timothy (Mindy) Heggen; & Kimberly
(Ryan) Coquet. Also 11 great grandchildren who loved him very much.

In 1958, Wayne and Ellen moved into their home they had built themselves over several years on
“Penn” Street in Littleton, Colorado; and have resided there since. In the 1970’s, they also built a cabin
in Grand Lake, Colorado; where they spent many happy days and weekends working on their cabin while
enjoying the beauty of Grand Lake. This cabin provided their children, grandchildren and great
grandchildren an abundance of wonderful, happy memories.

Wayne was an excellent craftsman and was very skilled in woodcrafting. He enjoyed camping, fishing,
boating and hunting. There are many happy memories of camping and fishing with their good friends,
the Bensons, at Big Creek Lakes; Granby and several other Colorado mountain lakes. Wayne was an avid
Bronco fan and enjoyed most sports. He also played softball and bowled on leagues in his younger
years. He and Ellen spent countless hours working in their beautiful yard. As Wayne’s health began to
fail, he enjoyed visits from family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren; neighbors and
church family. Family and friends were very important to Wayne and he made great effort to keep in
touch with his siblings, cousins and old friends.

In retirement, Wayne played the baritone saxophone in three bands, including the Malley Band and the
church band. He also enjoyed restoring antique tractors, and at one time owned four of those tractors.
Wayne and Ellen also made many road trips travelling all over the United States from Washington DC to
Oregon. In later years daughter, Bobbi and her husband had the privilege of traveling with them to
many wonderful places.

Wayne and Ellen joined the Englewood United Methodist Church (now Spirit of Hope) in 1974. Wayne
served many years as a member of the Board of Trustees; he counted the offering each Sunday for 20
years; sold grocery cards for 10 years; was a member of the men’s club; and played in the church band
and handbell choir for many years. He loved working at the church; building and repairing things with
members of the men’s club who became very close friends.

Besides his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren; Wayne is survived by his brothers and
sisters; Betty, Frank, Jerry and Pam along with many extended family members who meant so much to
him.

The family would like to thank the neighbors of “Penn Street”, the members of the Spirit of Hope United
Methodist church, Pastor Charlotte Carr; Agape Hospice; and caregivers who helped and supported our
family so much during these past several months.

In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations sent to the Spirit of Hope food bank; or the Denver
Dumb Friends League.
