Walter Joseph Altman Jr., passed away from natural causes in his home on September 26th, 2026.

A baby boomer born on May 6th, 1952, in Poughkeepsie, New York, Walt spent his juvenile years growing up in Hyde Park on a chicken farm. He played out his teen years in Westchester County and then on to the Air Force getting himself on the WaltAbout of life. Four years later with his honorable discharge in hand he immediately went to work and eventually ended up working for IBM for 17 years. The next remarkable chapter in his life saw him in the entertainment industry.

Working in the business he went from the stone age to the space age, another 17-year career as he worked in front of and behind the cameras. He had on screen roles in Apollo 13 and The Perfect Storm, as well as roles in Star Trek and The X-files. From prep to post he experienced the production process as talent (mostly background work but did a stunt and a commercial) and behind the scenes as a 1st AD, 2nd AD, and PA. Studying at Santa Monica College he acquired the knowledge to build web sites and video editing.

After his time in Hollywood, Walt made the move to Colorado in 2015 to enjoy nature and the mountains.  He had 3 mountain bikes (Scout, Victor, and My Sharona), and loved riding technical rides up Mt. Blue Sky (then Mt. Evans). He loved exploring the Rocky Mountains and taking pictures of the wildlife for his website. After moving to Colorado, Walt adopted the love of his life, a big German shepherd named Chip, from Foothills Animal Shelter.  Walt wouldn’t leave the house without Chip by his side. He took great pride in his website, WaltAbout.com.

Walt is survived by his sister, Gale McGuire (South Carolina), and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Walter Sr., and Margaret as well as his sisters, Sharon, Theresa, Barbara, and his brother Oscar.

A funeral service with full military rites followed by burial of his remains will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on October 20th, 2026, at 2:30 pm, staging area

Contributions may be made to Foothills Animal Shelter in his memory.
