W. Marika Shields

December 20, 1949 - March 14, 2016

Marika went to be with her Lord on March 14, 2016, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer. She fought her battle with faith, grace and dignity. She will be deeply missed and remembered for her kind and loving attitude by everyone who was blessed enough to meet her.

Marika is survived by distant family in Texas and Germany, and numerous friends throughout the world who dearly love and celebrate her.  She was preceded in death by her father, Elmer, her mother, Erna, and her sister, Renate.

Marika was one of the best and friendliest Plant Protection Officers at Martin Marietta/Lockheed Martin. She was known for her bright smile, joyous personality and welcoming attitude to everyone she came in contact with both at work and among friends. She had a diversified career and even worked in the Climax Molybdenum mines in Leadville when she was young.

Marika was a beloved friend to many and a blessing to all she met. She cared deeply for all people, but found a particular love for the people in the Holy Land in Israel, which she visited every year.  She so loved the people and experiencing the place where Jesus lived, that she postponed cancer surgery and treatment in order to travel to Israel one last time in the fall of 2014. Marika's love of the Lord Jesus Christ was first and foremost in her life.  She was a licensed, ordained Minister of the Gospel of Our Lord Jesus Christ, and Associate Pastor of Face-To-Face International Church. She also loved her cat Benke, skiing, hiking, four-wheeling and birding.

Marika will be laid to rest beside her mother and sister in a graveside service, which will be held in Leadville, Colorado at St. Joseph's Cemetery, County Road 4, Southwest of Evergreen Cemetery, on April 13, 2016, at 1:00 PM.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Benny Hinn Ministries, http://www.bennyhinn.org/memory/; or to Face-To-Face International Church, 6966 N. Buckskin Dr., Littleton, CO 80125.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. I am so sorry for your loss.  Marika was a big help to me on numerous occasions when she was assigned to the Southpark West #1 building.  My customers appreciated her also.  I really appreciated her big smile and sense of welcoming.

  2. I will truly miss this amazing woman and her spirit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. She lived a true expression of God's love to humanity.

  3. Marika was indeed a fine person and a great asset to the security team at the Southpark West-1 facility.  She was a professional who was always positive in her outlook toward people.  I enjoyed her sense of humor and respected her for the way she conducted herself.  God bless you Marika.

  4. Marika was a lifelong family friend. My mother and her mother were friends until their passing. I loved getting her Christmas card each year. She had a close and personal relationship with our Lord and Savior and sang his praises daily. We should all strive to be as good and as humble as she was. She was the best kind of friend. Never judgmental and always accepting. God bless you Marika.

  5. I remember Marika from her work as a security guard at Lockheed Martin. I started working there in June 2001 and she always greeted me with a friendly smile. The last time I saw her was around August 2014, she was posted in the engineering building at Lockheed Martin. I told her about my upcoming wedding and honeymoon in Italy. She told me she had been to Rome but prefers Israel. She told me she was going to Israel for probably the last time but I didn't know why and I didn't pry. I missed her after a while so I asked another security guard and that's how I found out about her passing. Then I found this beautiful obituary for her. She had a beautiful personality and I still think about her sometimes. I'm sorry for your loss.
