Thomas Melvin Kennedy (Tom) of Englewood, Colorado (formerly of Butte, Montana) passed away at 8:35 p.m. on Monday, November 1, 2010 at Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado at the age of 80. Tom was born in Butte, Montana on February 8, 1930 to Paul and Edith (Gill) Kennedy. He attended Butte High School. Tom joined the United States Naval Reserve and served from 1947 to 1952. In 1951 Tom married Neola Murphy of Butte, Montana. The Kennedy family lived in Englewood, Colorado for the last 43 years. Tom started his work life as a Miner in the Copper Mines in Butte, Montana and then obtained training in the Sheet Metal Trade and was a Sheet Metal Foreman until his retirement. Tom loved to play chess with his family and he played chess online with his brothers in other cities and with people all over the world. He loved family vacations which usually involved the outdoors and camping. He enjoyed keeping up with the latest computer technology and this allowed him to keep in close contact with his family.
Tom is survived by his wife Neola Kennedy and his five children; Thomas Neil Kennedy, Karen Anne Kennedy, Jerry Paul Kennedy, Janet Irene Kennedy, and Lois Marie Kennedy (Walker). He is also survived by his two brothers; Allen Kennedy and John Kennedy.
Tom was a very kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed. He was always there for his family. He was a wonderful grandfather to Sean Kennedy, Dana Kennedy, Justin Kennedy, Kris Kennedy, Jamie Downs, Cassandra Kennedy, Holly Walker, and Rebecca Walker. And, to his great-grandchildren Kaylee Kennedy, Madison Kennedy, Lauren Kennedy, Olivia Kennedy, Brandon Downs, Christopher Downs, Connor Downs, and Heather Downs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul Herbert Kennedy and Edith (Gill) Kennedy, his brother Paul ‘Bud’ Kennedy and his sister Lois (Kennedy) Foster.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 8, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bullock Colonial Chapel, 1375 E. Hampden Avenue, Englewood, Colorado 80113.
A celebration of Tom's life will follow the service at the Kennedy home at 3700 S. Green Court, Englewood, Colorado. Since this celebration will be catered by Maggiano’s, the family is asking everyone not to bring food.
