Thomas Joseph Powers, Jr., 83, passed away on November 10th, 2016 in Denver, Colorado. Thomas was a resident of Englewood, Colorado. Friends and family are encouraged to sign his guest book and share memories by clicking the appropriate tab on the left.
I knew Tom from Porter's Hospital Athletic Club. We shared many interesting conversations. He loved to talk about baseball and ice hockey. He invited me along to some Opera Colorado productions. I had never been to an Opera. I have Tom to thank for introducing me to something new to enrich my life. I invited Tom to some of my family's gatherings for dinner and to listen to my aunt play the piano. He seemed to enjoy them very much. I will always remember Tom for his kindness. He will be missed.
I met Tom a few years ago. He was a generous and kind man. He became friends with my Mom through their love of music. He loved to hear her play the piano. He always wrote a thank you note for any little thing you did for him. His passion in life was opera. He was a virtual encyclopedia on the subject. I'm so sad to hear of his passing. I didn't know. It was an honor to know you. I know you are resting in God's arms. You will be remembered.
I was surprised and saddened to hear of Tom's death from my sister and cousin in Colorado, who introduced him to our mother. Her, being a pianist, and Tom, an opera buff, hit it off immediately. He was always a perfect gentleman, mannerly, and often complimented mom on her musical skill. He was very articulate and proper in correspondence with us……..a lost art. He wrote such a beautiful tribute to our mother when she died in March, and I read it as the perfect closing at her funeral. I pray that Tom's family, friends at his church and opera friends will properly mark his passing too.
