Susan M. Pearsall (Feb. 17, 1942 – June, 13, 2022)
Susan Middleton Pearsall was born Susan Jane Thompson on February 17, 1942 in
Brooklyn NY to Lucille “Sis” Bagley and Erwin “Tim” Walter Thompson. She grew up,
along with brother, John, in Brooklyn and then at Lake Mohawk in Sparta NJ. She grew
up swimming, skating, and skate sailing on the lake.
Susan is predeceased by her parents, her brother, John W. Thompson, her nephew
Sam Thompson, and the love of her life, husband Dennis Pearsall. She is survived by
two daughters, Karen Middleton (Christian Overbey) and Jane Middleton, and six
grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Kristina, Molly, Katie, and Zoe as well as nieces,
Jessica and Katherine, Zach (Kiki) and their children, Miette, Samantha and August.
Susan graduated from Newton High School (NJ) and the Orange Memorial Hospital
School of Nursing (NJ). As an RN, Susan served in a variety of nursing roles including
at a pediatric office, a plastic surgery practice, Liberty Mutual and Dana Hall School.
She was also known for her work in childbirth education, teaching classes and
advocating for fathers in the delivery room in the early 1970s. She has many friends
who had known her from “class” with whom she remained in touch.
She will be remembered as feisty, funny and possessing a wicked sense of humor.
Friends recall her for her stories, her laughter, and (of course) her sense of style.
Susan and Denny traveled a lot and enjoyed their trips, good food, and time with family
and friends. Ogunquit, Maine was a special place for her. Widowed in 2010, Susan
spent time in California and Colorado visiting family. Her grandchildren were precious
to her and she loved them all to distraction, including granddog Abigail.
For nine years, Susan fought a rare interstitial lung disease and ovarian cancer.
Thanks largely to her network of friends, she was able to stay in her home in Holliston
and remain independent. She enjoyed her Stitch and Bitch group, meals out with
friends, time outside and in gardens. She was an avid reader. In April she moved to
Colorado to be closer to family.
A celebration of her life will take place on July 23. Memorial gifts in her honor may be
made to “Friends of the Holliston Public Library” 752 Washington Street, Holliston, MA
01746.

Guestbook

  1. Jane and Karen- your Mom was always so fun and throughout our high school years always treated me like family – since I was at her house so often!! ;). She even put up with me eating all of her countertop almonds! I have many wonderful memories of her and Denny. I am so sorry for your loss. May you all find peace in remembering the times you shared with her and of a life well lived. ️
