Susan Lea Wiegand
April 8, 1951 ~ November 28, 2024
Susan Lea Wiegand passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family on November 28, 2024, after a hard-fought two-year battle with cancer.
Susan was born on April 8, 1951, to Clifford and Beatrice Schmitt in Buffalo, New York.
In 1974, Susan moved to Colorado which she continued to call home for the next 50 years. As a well-respected real estate broker at Metro Brokers and later Brokers Guild, she came to know Denver like the back of her hand and formed close relationships in the community.
Susan was an avid reader, gardener, skier, and card player. Perhaps most of all, she loved to play golf. She was also resourceful, creative, and capable of learning anything – from Latin tutor, to amateur seamstress, nurse, to DIY home improvement and interior decorator. With unwavering resolve and determination, she was a force to be reckoned with and an anchor for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and devoted wife. She will be very dearly missed.
Susan is survived by her husband of 29 years, John Wiegand; her children, Colin O’Connor and wife Becca Berline, Kelsey O’Connor, Kirsten Wiegand and husband Alex Walker; her grandchildren, Brighton O’Connor, Coralie O’Connor, Ginger O’Connor, and Elke O’Connor; her brothers, Peter and Paul Schmitt; and her sister, Jeanne Peterson.
Her final resting place will be Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO.

To John, Colin, Kelsey, Kristen and family – please accept our sincere condolences. Sue has been a dear friend for nearly 60 years, going back to Mount Saint Mary’s High School. Sue was truly one-of-a-kind! We can only imagine your sense of loss of such a wonderful person. We hope that you can take comfort knowing that Sue was much loved and loving. May she rest in peace. Love, Maureen and Tom Bolling
To the Wiegand and Schmitt families, we knew the Schmitt family for many years. We all went to St John the Baptist Grammar School together. Sue and I stood next to each other for our first communion. We both graduated from Mount Saint Mary’s High School and during those years we had many wonderful memories. Sue was a smart, fun-loving and caring person. Your loving memories of her will help to comfort you during this very dificult time.
Our Deepest Sympathy,
Denise and Dennis Tepas
