Sidney R. Walker

Sidney Ray Walker was born in 1936 to a young woman Hulda Irene Walker. She was married to his father Sidney Ralph Walker in a literal shotgun marriage at 16 years of age. He was 26, thus the shotgun. They began their family with their son in rural Tarkio, Missouri. Sidney was followed by a sister Lila May, a brother James Earl, Melvin Dean and finally the baby, Marvin Eugene. Sidney married Carol Sue Corbin in 1954. They first met when she was only 12. When she turned 14 they began to officially go out. As they graduated from High School, Sidney and Carol were married. They gave birth to their first daughter Sydney Sue. Julie Ann came soon after. A little boy then came along, their pride and joy, Randy Ray. Another little girl Lora Marie was born as their Babe. This completed their little family. Sidney grew up a farmer, but when he decided to move his family to Denver Colorado he took a job at Gates Rubber Company. When Sidney heard there was an opportunity to become a Denver Police Officer, he excitedly jumped at the chance. To his great amazement, he succeeded and served proudly as a policeman in Denver for 25 years until he retired with honors. Among his duties, Sidney walked the beat, worked the paddy wagon and for many years worked in S.S.U. (S.W.A.T.) with the canine unit. His hobbies included card playing, fishing and hunting. Sidney especially loved fishing with his grandsons. He also enjoyed camping and mechanics. He not only worked on his own vehicles, but also for his many friends and neighbors. In 1973, their oldest daughter graduated from high school. But suddenly, tragedy struck and Randy lost his life at 14 in a drowning accident. This became a loss that Sidney and Carol struggled to live with for many years. Within a few years of this tragedy, Sidney was in a terrible car wreck that crushed his skull. One thing you have to understand is that Sidney was a super strong man. And neither polio, nor a very bad car wreck could keep him down for long. As Sidney was retiring from the Police Force, he began building a home on a mountain top in Cotopaxi, Colorado. He retired in January of 1987 and he and Carol moved to the mountains in January of 1991. They lived in the beautiful Sangre de Cristos for over 20 years. In 2004, Sidney and Carol celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. What a special day that was. As family gathered they set their sights on another 50 years. Sidney had a massive widow maker heart attack while living on the mountain. But guess what? He survived. He then suffered pulmonary embolism within a few years and once again walked away from the hospital. The nasty thing that finally wore Sidney down was a disease that took his mind power away, Alzheimer's disease. Sidney Ray Walker passed from this life into heaven on January 27, 2014 early in the morning peacefully around 4a.m. "It is well with my soul." A verse that Sidney believed and held on to. Sidney is survived by: Carol Walker and their daughters: Sydney Sue, Julie Ann and Lora Marie.
