Sean Douglas Helgason, 29, beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 26th, 2024 in his adopted city of Denver, Colorado. Born on July 31, 1994 in Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada, he was the cherished son of Dale and Mary Ellen Helgason and loving brother of Lauren and Ryan Helgason.
Sean graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. His calling was in medicine and he thrived in the fast-paced emergency department of Advent Porter Health in Denver where he worked as an EMT. Sean was planning to further his education with a Nursing degree at AdventHealth University to begin in the fall.
Sean’s move to Denver after graduation was fueled by his love of music, nature, and outdoor adventures. Sean’s passion for music took him to many concerts and music festivals across the country where he made some of his most precious memories with friends. He loved animals and always had a dog for companionship with Shadow, then Roscoe, and lastly Pickles. Snowboarding and hiking with friends always brought great joy and connection to Sean’s life.
Sean was drawn to new experiences which took him to places far and wide. One of his favorite adventures was his month-long backpacking trip through Southeast Asia with Ryan and Lauren. He also cherished his many trips to Canada to visit family and spend time at Fishing Lake and the Rocky Mountains.
Sean’s life was a vibrant tapestry of kindness, wit, adventure, love of his family and friends, and passion for life’s experiences. His sense of humor and ability to bring levity and laughter to any situation will be greatly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Sean is survived and deeply missed by his parents, Dale and Mary Ellen (Miller) Helgason, and siblings, Lauren and Ryan Helgason. He also leaves to mourn, his grandparents Audrey Helgason and Lorne Miller, his aunts, Ellen Helgason & Teresa Burfield, his uncle Wayne Miller, his cousins, Marissa & Wally Burfield and Drew & Regan Helgason, and his close-knit extended family and many friends. Sean is preceded in death by his grandparents, Frances Miller & Mervin Helgason, and his uncles, Wally Burfield III & Glenn Helgason.
Funeral Services to be held Saturday, July 6, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Philip Neri Catholic Church, located at 292 Munn Rd E, Fort Mill, SC with refreshments to follow.
