Sara Nell Starns Obituary
Sara Nell Starns was born on February 15, 1933 in Oberlin, Kansas, to Theron and Ruth Starns. Sara Nell was named after her father’s eldest sister. She was the beloved little sister to her three older brothers: Walwin, Vernon, and Arthur. Sara grew up in various places in Colorado. Sara’s lifelong enjoyment of ice cream was fostered in childhood by her father’s homemade machine that would produce a gallon at one time.
Sara graduated from high school and then worked in a few flower shops with her mother before enrolling at the Colorado Teachers College. Sara studied through the summers and completed her Bachelor of Arts in Education degree in three years. She taught High School Mathematics in Centralia, Washington after she graduated.
Sara made her choice to follow Jesus at an early age. Sara felt called to preach the gospel to seeking souls while teaching in Washington. She wrote a letter offering for the Work of the Ministry and continued to teach. Even as her memory began to fade, Sara would vividly recall the day she received an answer to her letter in her mailbox. Through the letterbox slats she recognized the handwriting on the envelope, so in her excitement she “almost tore the mailbox down”. The letter said there was a place for her in the Work in Colorado and she could “tell her school board she would not be back.” Sara started in the Work in 1958 and continued for 54 years. As a homeless minister, Sara preached the Gospel of Jesus in Colorado, Wisconsin, Missouri, Texas, Washington, and Utah. When Sara’s health didn’t allow her to be active in the Ministry, she lived in a various assisted and nursing homes in Littleton, Centennial and Aurora. She was kindly cared for and looked after by friends.
Sara is preceded in death by her parents and brothers. She is survived by a sister-in-law, Sharon Starns, many nieces and nephews and many friends.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, January 11 at Front Range Community College, Westminster, Colorado at 11AM. A potluck luncheon will follow. Flowers can be sent to 6098 Puma Ridge, Lone Tree, CO 80124 by end of day Friday.

A precious servant of God.
She certainly was a precious servant of God. I knew her in Colorado from 1968 to 1972. She served God with all her heart. She loved God’s people and searching souls. She won’t be forgotten.
