Sandra Gay Zimmer

Sandra (Sandy) Gay Zimmer, a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, died unexpectedly at her home on July 18, 2017 at the age of 67.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Burke Zimmer, two daughters, Alexandra (Jake) Younggren, and Ashley (Ryan) Smith and four grandchildren, Mason, Beau, Cody, and Benjamin.
Sandy was born March 6, 1950, in Topeka, Kansas to Gloria and Jim VanBuskirk. The second of five daughters, she grew up in Broomfield, Colorado. She graduated from Colorado Women's College in 1971 with a degree in Elementary Education. She received her Master's in Early Childhood Education from University of Colorado in 1980.
She married Michael, Detective for Denver Police, in December 1978. While living in Denver, Sandy taught elementary school in Adams County District 12, before taking time off to raise her children in Arvada. She later went back to substitute teach for Jefferson County, Denver Public Schools, and Adams County. She was also an avid bridge player and took joy in spending time with her grandchildren.
A memorial service is scheduled for Thursday, July 27th at 10:30am Harvey Park Christian Church - 3401 S Lowell Blvd, Denver, CO 80236 with a reception to follow.
