Perkie's life was inspired by her love of dance. She believed in the altruistic works of the Needlework Guild of America, and most of all, contributed handmade items to the NGA. In 2005 she was honored for philanthropic efforts as a "Channel 7 Everyday Hero." Her favorite place to volunteer for many years was the Sewall Rehabilitation Center. She hosted their children's Christmas party each year, and served on the volunteer board for many years. Among other awards she earned were the Yasuri Minori Award for outstanding service in Denver as well.
She and George were avid golfers. They were charter members of Pinehurst Country Club as well as members of the Senior Golfers of America for many years. Perkie served on the Englewood Recreation Council, developing Englewood area parks as well as Broken Tee Golf Course.
