Richard Lee Shields of Denver Colorado passed away on January 31st, 2025 at the age of 79. Richard Shields was born on February 3, 1945 in Atoka, Oklahoma to John Floyd Shields and Callie Riggs.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Shields, his daughters LeAnna Shields, and Vicki Collins, brothers Ted Shields, Derry Shields, Crandell Shields, Venoy Shields, and Veryl Shields, sisters, Cheryl Brooks, Sonya Matthews, Twylla McGee and several nieces and nephews.

Richard Shields is preceded in death by parents John Shields and Callie Shields, brothers Bruce Shields and Stanley Shields, sisters Joyce Huddleston, Chris Douglas, and Lynetta Harrison.

After graduating in 1964 he attended college for an architectural degree. He was hired by Can-Tex in Mineral Wells Texas. In 1969 he joined the Navy and served in Vietnam receiving a National Defense Service Medal and a Vietnam Service Medal (bronze star). He returned to Can-Tex for 15 more years. In 1988 he took a job with USGS in Lakewood, Colorado as a Cartographer. He was there for 25 years.

Richard Shields was always involved in community service. In Texas he volunteered his time to the VFW holding many positions locally and nationally. After moving to Colorado he volunteered for BIGs (Blacks in Government) where he also held positions locally and nationally. Richard donated to Bonfils Blood Center many, many times. He also was an organ and tissue donor. In his honor please remember to sign the back of your ID or Driver’s license. And or donate a bible through the Gideons.
