Richard Gerald "Jerry" Albertus
Richard Gerald “Jerry” Albertus was born in Sioux falls, South Dakota August 29, 1940 to Richard Vernon “Rich” Albertus and Rosealee Marie Donahoe Albertus. He was two months premature and weighed in at 3½ pounds. He spent his early years moving from South Dakota to Montana to Wyoming and back again wherever his Dad’s work took them. He graduated from High School in Thermopolis, Wyoming and attended Casper College where he met Beryl “Peach” Walker. After graduating Casper Jr. College he returned to Rapid City, South Dakota where he attended the South Dakota School of Mines, graduating in 1964 with a degree in physics. He was offered a job as a geophysicist in Casper, Wyoming with Pan American Petroleum where he renewed his friendship with Peach. They were married in February of 1965. They were blessed with two wonderful children, Michelle Marie Albertus and Richard Todd “Ric” Albertus. The oil and gas industry took them from Casper, Wyoming to Denver, Colorado to Calgary, Alberta Canada to Midland, Texas, back to Denver and then to Covington, Louisiana. Jerry kept busy working for oil companies and consulting. Twenty-one years ago, Jerry was instrumental in the creation of Ultra Petroleum and he served as President of Ultra for several years before resuming his consulting career. Jerry and Peach returned to Colorado with Ultra and made their home in Franktown, Colorado on five acres of pine forest. Jerry loved his home there and he loved feeding the birds and watching the deer raid the “Albertus salad bar.” Jerry loved cars, racing, motorcycles and golfing. He collected a variety of cars throughout his life and loved telling stories of his many treasures. Five years ago, Jerry and his son Ric attended the Skip Barber Racing School in California. This inspired Jerry to purchase a new Mustang Boss Laguna Seca and he and Ric then signed up to compete in The One Lap of America Race as the racing team “Old Crows” in honor of Jerry’s “Pappy” Rich Albertus. Competing in that race with his son was one of the highlights of his life. In 2006 Jerry received the Outstanding Explorer of the Year Award from The Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists, which was a highlight of his career. Jerry also owned a couple of Dodge Vipers and he and Peach enjoyed many trips with The Viper Club. Jerry also owned a Harley Fat Boy motorcycle and he and Peach attended the Motorcycle Rally in Sturgis, South Dakota with his brother Mike and his wife Kerry every year for thirteen years. Jerry was preceded in death by his mother Marie Albertus, his father Rich Albertus and two infant siblings. Surviving him are his wife Beryl “Peach” Albertus, his brother Mike Murray and Mike’s wife Kerry Murray, his daughter Michelle Albertus, his son Ric Albertus and Ric’s wife Caitlin Fitzpatrick, and his grandchildren Molly Penzenik, Molly’s husband Doug Penzenik, Hannah Strobel, Derek Strobel and Sinead Albertus.
Private family graveside services were held at the Littleton Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will be held June 3rd from 2:00 pm to 5:00 p.m. at Concordia on the Lake Events Center. We mourn the passing of Jer and know he is now at peace. We look back at our time with him and Peach and feel solace when we remember his contagious smile and laughter. We wish we had been able to spend more time with them. We had the pleasure of several visits in Santa Fe when they participated in road trips with their Viper Club and we were able to get together for food and conversations. Those times were filled with much laughter and interesting stories of travels and business that they shared as a couple. The friendship we developed with Jer and Peach will remain one of the high points of our lives. We will miss him a great deal and will keep him in our thoughts always with a smile reminiscent of his upbeat way he lived life with his wonderful wife and family. God will watch over him at the great car garage in the sky.
It is with heavy Hearts that we grieve the loss of this very special Guy as we reflect over our enduring "Friendship" having first met Peach & Jerry in Calgary in the 60,s .Raising our children together with many memorable fun times spent in each others company…Separation through career transfers caused a brief interruption which renewed in the 70,s enduring to this day….We are blessed with so many memories of times spent with this "Good" caring man…We shall miss his dry wit and sense of humour….God Bless you Peach…..You with the strength of your Family will endure
Jerry was a mentor and friend. I first met Jerry in 1980 and soon developed close friendship with him and his family, watching Michelle and Ric grow up and spent many good time with Jerry and Peach. Jerry taught me how to be an explorationist and to utilize all data and information available and to be accurate and complete when developing a play or prospect. I would not have the career in oil and gas I have had with out Jerry and his tutelage.

Peach, Michelle, and Ric. We are so sorry for your loss. Our thoughts & prayers are with you and your families.
We have known Jerry many years through our membership in the Viper club. He will be greatly missed by not only us but by all in the Viper club. I still remember the great time we had at your house a few years ago with a viper club event. It is hard to understand why life has to end for us all. However, as believers, we know this isn't all there is. It was a great privilege for us to have known Jerry. He was incredibly considerate, responsible, intelligent and thoughtful. He was a positive person and would not want us to be sad today. I am sure if Jerry were here he would tell us to cheer up, smile and remember all of the great memories we all shared. Jerry may be gone but his memory will live on in all of us forever. May the Lord comfort you as He has us.
Jerry was the nicest, sweetest, funniest man I ever knew. He touched us all and made our lives better. And Seeing Jerry and Peach together made the whole world better. Peach – we know that memories will sustain you, but reach out to all of us who love and care about you.
Oh, Peach! I'm so sorry we didn't make it to Machu Pichu! Jerry was truly a sweetheart and I so enjoyed our brief acquaintance. We who are walking the path need to stay in touch. God bless you and yours!
