With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved family patriarch, Richard “Butch” Herring. He died on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at the age of 72 after a life filled with lots of family love and laughter. He was born on September 15, 1952, in Moline, Illinois, to Hubert & Margaret (Jones) Herring. He lived in Colorado for over 40 years.

He was the head of our large extended family that spanned 4 generations. We lovingly called him “Daddy Butch“ or “Papa Butch” depending on the generation. On February 9, 2025, he celebrated his 16th wedding anniversary with his wife Jima Taclendo Herring. Surviving are daughter Kelly Herring, son Kevin (Paige) Herring, stepdaughters Rogelyn Reyes, Regine Reyes and Clarissa Taclendo (partner Travis Mill); grandchildren Jacquelyn (Marshall) Reidel, Jordan Jankovsky, Lexi Jankovsky, Connor Smith, Addie Smith, Kali Herring, Kaison Mill, Warren Reyes, Andrei Bullozo, Stacey Bullozo, Chloe Bullozo, Sean Israel Bullozo; and great-granddaughter Kennedi Riedel.

Besides the generations of descendants, he is also survived by his sister Ruth (Dave) Gould and 7 nieces/nephews, 12 great nieces/nephews and 8 great-grand nieces/nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brothers Ron Herring and Ray Herring.

Butch was an avid sports fan during his entire life. If he wasn’t playing sports, he was watching them on television. He played basketball and baseball as a child and also softball as an adult. When living in Moline he coached ladies’ softball and met his first wife Julie Fischer when renting fields for a tournament. He coached his own children as they began playing soccer, basketball, baseball, softball, tennis and even golf. The family often traveled to other states for youth sports events. From the start of the franchise, he held season tickets for the Rockies and looked forward to opening day for many years. He rarely missed a Bronco game on TV, watching regularly with family and friends.

He was a fantastic cook. Family and friends would often gather to enjoy his amazing meals, especially his chicken fajitas and chicken wings. When he was first married, he would often call his mother asking for the details of favorite family recipes. When they were old enough, his own children called him for reminders on how to prepare those same meals. In recent years meal preparation was covered by the younger generations and the family members will have memories from celebrating the last few holidays together at his house.

He created a waterproofing business that served the greater Denver metropolitan area and later retired from that industry.

Final arrangements are being handled by Stork Morley Funeral and Cremation. There will be a celebration of Butch’s life starting at 10:00am on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at The St Vrain, 635 3rd Ave in Longmont, Colorado. (TheStVrain.com).

Final words to Butch from his son and daughters and their children, “Rest in Peace, Dad. May angels surround you, Papa Butch. Your love and light will remain in our hearts forever. We love you always.” Final word to Butch from his loving wife, Jima, “Although I can’t see and talk to you loudly anymore, I can just whisper because you stay in my heart. I love you and miss you.”
