Richard A. “Dick” Dieckman, 81, passed away peacefully in his home in Lakewood, CO. on July 2 nd .
Richard was much loved by his sister, Linda Kantor (Dennis), nieces, great nieces and nephew, his cousins,
and his loyal and caring friends.
Rich was employed by the US Forestry Service for over 40 years, where he was lauded for his dedication
and hard work, and he proudly served our country in the Army in Korea. After his retirement, his volunteer
work teaching reading and math was a great source of pride to him. But most of all, Rich will be
remembered for his gentle spirit, quiet kindness, wry sense of humor, his amazing woodworking skills,
handcrafting beautiful guitars and kayaks, his love of the outdoors, hiking, kayaking, camping, and
worldwide traveling.
Our family is grateful to all those who cared for Rich, especially Brian Morales, and his West Coast “family”
Don and Debbie Virgovic of Bow, WA, with whom he shared countless happy times and great adventures.
May you be at peace, Rich.
An informal gathering to celebrate Dick’s life will be held in early fall 2023 at the US Forest Service
Buckhorn Ranger Station near Loveland, CO. For details about the gathering, please contact Christa

Guestbook

  1. I first met Dick in 2004 on a Colorado River trip, Fruita to Westwater, my first trip with the kayak club. I chose to follow him through the rapids because he had a handmade boat and so I figured he would pick a safe path. There have been so many trips and day paddles over the years…. he truly will be missed.

  2. I worked with Dick for many years in forest management in Lakewood. We had many laughs. I admired his woodworking skills, building a sea kayak and building all those beautiful guitars. I'm so happy he enjoyed his retirement and traveled the world. Rest in peace dear friend.
