Ray grew up on a farm in Grand Island, Nebraska. He attended the local high school where he was an outstanding basketball player. In his senior year he was chosen as one of five individuals named to the All-State team.
Ray attended the University of Nebraska and graduated from the University of Denver. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master of Arts degree, both in mathematics.
Enlisting in the United States Army during the Korean War, he was a physical fitness instructor, which included time as a ski instructor at Camp Hale in Leadville, Colorado.
He served the Denver Christian Schools for 28 years. During those years he taught mathematics, was varsity basketball coach, high school principal, and school administrator. Ray enjoyed teaching, coaching and encouraging students to grow in the knowledge and love of the Lord.
Upon leaving Denver Christian he accepted a position at Central Presbyterian Church in downtown Denver. He served 18 years as their business administrator.
After dedicating a lifetime to God in Christian service, Ray was able to retire and enjoy time with his wife Joan. They were able to travel extensively. His favorite country being Italy.
Ray and Joan had 65 wonderful years together. They had six children and many grandchildren and great-grand children to love and enjoy.
He enjoyed all sports, with basketball and baseball being his favorite. He had a uncanny ability to remember accurate scores of contests played decades earlier.
Ray was a loving husband, father and loyal friend.
Most importantly, he aspired to live his life by the following verse, clearly recognizing it is all by grace:
“I press toward the mark for the the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus”. Philippians 3:14
He was certain, confident and committed to his core beliefs: A Sovereign God, we are here to serve, and responsible for our soul. We are not our own, we were bought with a price. With those absolute beliefs he did his best to live with integrity, and respect for everyone he met.
“Great is Thy Faithfulness” Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided, Great is Thy Faithfulness Lord unto me.

Ray had a wonderful impact on me. Just by being around him you felt a little closer to godliness. His humor, kindness and general example of living a grace filled life is what I will always remember.
