Phyllis Catherine Nash

Phyllis Nash, 81, was born on April 30, 1931, and left this world on May 21, 2012, surrounded by her devoted and loving family. She was a smart, strong, practical and very caring woman who will be missed tremendously. We were not ready to let her go, but her suffering became too much to bear and her unwavering faith made her yearn to be in Jesus' arms. Phyllis grew up in West Allis, Wisconsin and graduated from Pius XI High School. She met the love of her life, Norbert Nash, in 1949, and they were wed on November 8, 1952. They were blessed with five children: Craig, Mary Kay, Brian, Joanne and Bonnie. Phyllis was a career woman ahead of her time. She graduated from the Alverno College nursing program in 1952, and worked as a registered nurse for over 50 years! Her career began at St. Joseph's Hospital and the Veteran's Hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In 1969, Phyllis and her growing family relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where she worked at Penrose Hospital for 22 years. Phyllis and Norb then retired to sunny Peoria, Arizona in 1993. Phyllis continued to work part-time as a psychiatric nurse until 2003. She loved her career of taking care of people in need. She even won a nursing award for outstanding service. In 2006, they moved back to Colorado to be near their children. Phyllis was a life-long dog lover and really adored the companionship of her dog, Mickey. She also enjoyed reading, traveling, staying current with world events, rug hooking, her doll collection, shopping and visiting with her kids and grandkids. She traveled throughout the United States and experienced wonderful trips to Europe and Australia. She also did weekly volunteering in her church chapel for many years. Phyllis' practical advice, strong faith in God, calm demeanor, and love of family will live on in her children and grandchildren. We appreciate what a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend that Phyllis was! She set an outstanding example and was such a gift to us. Her legacy will not be forgotten. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Norbert Nash; her children Craig (Teresa), Mary Kay Allen (Rick), Brian (Khristy) and Bonnie Schutz (Scott); her grandchildren Derek, Jason (Katie), Brandon (Jennifer) and Ryan Nash, Joshua Hancock (Marie), Travis and Jeffrey Allen, Danielle Hoag, Brianna Nash, Nichole Schutz, Sarah and Steve Silvas; and her great grandchildren Alex Hancock, Bryce Nash and Claire Golding. She is also survived by her sister, Carol Blewett (Dave) and her brother, Gerald Haag, plus many nieces and nephews who will dearly miss Auntie Phyllis. Phyllis was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Joanne Carol Nash, infant son John Edward Nash, nephew, Jim Blewett and sister-in-law, Donna Haag. Services will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, May 25, 2012 at Light of the World Catholic Church in Littleton. There will be a light lunch reception at the church following the service. A gravesite ceremony will be held at Mount Olivet Cemetery at 1:00 pm (meet at the second gate to drive in as a procession). Phyllis requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in honor of her daughter, Joanne.
