Patricia "Pat" Czarnecki
May 21, 1945 ~ August 27, 2018
Patricia Ann Cyrus Czarnecki died peacefully holding the hands of her husband and daughter on Monday, August 27th, 2018 at Porter Hospice in Centennial, CO under a full moon. She was 73. Born in St. Louis, MO on May 21, 1945. Pat was the beloved wife of 46 years to Bob Czarnecki. She was the daughter of the late John Cyrus and Lupe Aguilera Cyrus and sister to her only brother, the late John Cyrus, Jr. In December ‘18, only 4 months after her passing, Pat's stepmother Gail Brett Cyrus passed away at the age of 92.
Pat spent much of her youth growing up in St. Petersburg, Florida. She received her undergraduate degree in teaching from Florida State University and also attended St. Petersburg Junior College. She moved to Denver in 1969 and started her professional career as a 2nd and 3rd grade teacher in Lakewood, CO. She met her husband one Sunday afternoon at the Little Bear (originally known as the Red Ram) in Evergreen, CO. They got married in 1972, and shortly after relocated to San Francisco, CA where they both worked in real estate. They lived in Mountain View, CA for 3 years before having a yearning to move back to the mountains in CO.
Upon returning to Denver she gave birth to her only daughter, Lisa, and became a stay at home mom. Pat was active in her daughter's school activities and sports, enjoyed playing tennis, exercising, bowling, and poker. Her favorite trip was to Greece, Italy and France - a trip her husband surprised her with for their 20th wedding anniversary. She cherished times with Bob at their winter home in Sarasota, FL for 10 years. The simple things brought her so much happiness.
Pat struggled with a respiratory condition, bronchiectasis, for many years and was diagnosed with a link to cystic fibrosis at the age of 70. She always had a smile on her face and handled her illness with such grace. She was very diligent about caring for herself and never complained about her health condition. When not doing her daily treatments, she enjoyed reading and watching shows about the universe and space, reading stories, watching personal interviews, doing crossword puzzles, and cheering on the Broncos. She loved various concerts seeing Johnny Mathis, Bonnie Raitt, Tony Bennett and Sergio Mendez. Some other favorites include Andre Bocelli, Norah Jones, Steely Dan, and bossa nova style music. Her favorite movie was "Somewhere in Time" and a close second was "West Side Story." Her all time favorite book was "The Prophet," and she had a love for her Greek heritage.
She will be missed for the kindness she extended to every single person she met. Her loyalty towards her friends was one of her greatest gifts. She leaves bits of wisdom inscribed in books she gave to her daughter over the years, and she is remembered for one of her favorite sayings- "It's not what happens to you in life, it's how you deal with it." One of her greatest joys was learning of her daughter's pregnancy and spending time with her only granddaughter, Olivia. She was able to enjoy 11 months with her granddaughter before her passing.
Pat is survived by her husband Bob, her daughter Lisa, son in law Jason White and only granddaughter Olivia. Family and friends continue to hold her close in their hearts.
Pat's spirit continues to shine bright, and her legacy of kindness lives on forever. She is at peace. We thank you for loving her and keeping her memory alive.
