Myrle Inez Cornelsen

Born in Junction City, Kansas to Florence Kenney Darby & Elijah Ward Darby. She grew up and graduated from school in Chapman, Kansas. She attended Emporia State Teachers College after high school and then taught in a one-room schoolhouse and later 2nd grade.

In June of 1941 she took the trip of her lifetime. She went to Hawaii by boat and stayed with a High School pen pal and friends from college. While there, she visited the islands of Oahu and Maui.

Myrle met Ezra F. Cornelsen while teaching 2nd grade in Peabody, Kansas. She and Ezra married on February 7, 1943 in Atlanta, Georgia just before Ezra went overseas during World War II.

During the two years Ezra was away, she moved to San Francisco, California to live with her aunt and uncle until he came home.


After World War II Myrle and Ezra moved to Norfolk, Virginia to finish his time in the Navy. The two took a trip to Washington D.C. and loved the area, so they stayed. They lived in Silver Spring, Maryland (just outside D.C.) until June of 1977, when they moved to Denver, Colorado.

During their time in Maryland she had two daughters, Lani Beth (Dec. 1952) and Connie Sue (Nov. 1954). She was married to Ezra for over 50 years. He passed away in July of 1998.

She loved to travel and traveled to every state in U.S., every province in Canada, Mexico, and into Europe.


Services Thursday, March 29, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel United Methodist Church (2700 South Downing St). Interment Fort Logan National Cemetery.
