Michael P. (Mike) Barr Michael P. 'Mike' Barr, 54, of Arvada passed away June 27, 2013. Mike is survived by his wife, Kellie, brother Robert (Barbara), sister Alice Fritz (Dale Coski), daughter Amanda, son Christopher, son Justin, two grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was born January 15, 1959 in Denver, Colorado. Mike started school at Westminster Elementary. From there, he went to Shaw Heights middle school and then to Westminster High School. During his High School years, Mike participated in the Civil Air Patrol and was a police cadet at the Federal Heights Police Department. After graduation from Westminster High School, Mike joined the U.S. Air Force in October 1977. Mike served on active duty until 1981. Mike served his active duty and subsequent reserve duty as a Law Enforcement specialist. While in the Air Force, Mike completed two years of college credits. Upon discharge from the Air Force, Mike applied for a police officer position at the Westminster Police Department. Mike was selected and went through the police academy and became a Westminster Police Officer. Mike loved his job as a police officer and he loved his department. During his career, he served as a Patrol Officer, Liquor Detective, Vice/Narcotics Detective, and Field Training Instructor. Mike retired after 22 years with the department. One of his awards while with the department was the Distinguished Service Award. Mike met his wife Kellie at an Assisted Living where his mother was a resident and Kellie was the activity director. Mike always joked about being cheap so their first date was at the Diamond Shamrock...now that is cheap! He then took Kellie to Chili's and their love affair began. Mike was a devoted volunteer for Northglenn Heights and Arvada Estates for several years. He held a weekly current events group and dressed up in just about every outfit you can imagine for special events, parties and holidays. Mike was easy going, had a great sense of humor, liked to laugh, loved to joke (mostly about himself) and loved spending time or talking with his friends and family. Mike was a simple man. It didn't take much to make him happy. He was happiest staying home, in his trademark outfit... jeans, a 't' shirt with a flag on it, tennis shoes, his old baseball cap and sunglasses, sitting in his recliner, drinking diet Mt. Dew, hanging out with his best buddies, Snickers and Bailey by his side and chewing on his Skol wintergreen pouches. He enjoyed summer, the sun and smoking on the patio while chatting with neighbors. His daily routine was listening to the news 18 hours a day...One of his many favorite sayings...'We must keep up on current events!' He enjoyed a yearly fishing trip with one of his neighbors, and the highlight of his day would be going to the mailbox to chat with the mail lady. He loved Rock music and loved his prized Air Force Blue Dodge Durango! He loved duty...the Air Force and being a Westminster Police Officer and he loved the American Flag. Before Mike would hang up from any conversation from anyone, he would always close with...Be Safe....I love you....God Bless you! Family and friends remember Mike as being full of life, happy, kind, friendly, outgoing, loving, caring, having a great sense of humor, laughing, smiling, joking, a caring father, a wonderful brother, a great uncle, a delightful friend, a fabulous loving husband and a real true 'HERO'.
