Meta Marie Heiserman
Meta Marie Heiserman (“Darling”) passed away peacefully on May 13, 2016. She was born on January 8, 1929, in Sheridan, Wyoming to Chester and Olive Walters. She was the fourth of six children, two of whom predeceased her, Ronald Walters and Betty Gingerich, and three of whom survive her, Barbara Frank, Richard Walters and Jim Walters.
She attended the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley, and graduated with a teaching degree. She went on to make great use of her knowledge and love of children as a distinguished 3rd grade teacher and role model in the Denver Public Schools for over 30 years.
While in college, Meta met a sailor who swept her off of her feet in Jack B. Heiserman. They were married in 1950, and had a wonderful marriage for the next 41 years, until Jack’s passing. They enjoyed gardening, cooking and traveling together. They raised three loving children: Michael (Karin, deceased), Patrice (George Morgan) and Joy (George Brangoccio). She doted on and helped raise her five adoring grandchildren: Joanna (Shane LaGrange), Melissa (Dan Cohen), Emily (Jason Vallery), Dan Levin and Anna Brangoccio. She loved her six great-grandchildren with all her heart: Alexa and Madeleine LaGrange, Nava Cohen, Zoey Levin, and James and Olive Vallery, and eagerly awaited news of the birth of her seventh, Ivy Vallery.
She is remembered by her family, her friends and all who knew her as a very intelligent, sweet, generous, humble and gracious woman. We will miss her sense of adventure and desire to have fun with family. We will miss her cooking and her knitting, her sewing and her puzzles. We will miss her gardens and dachshunds (Fritz, Heidi and Tizzy), her laugh, her fierce loyalty and unending support. We will miss her tight hugs and encouraging words. With gratitude and all of our love, we wish our mother, grandmother and great grandmother Meta the journey she deserves, and we share her joy in reuniting with the loved ones she has missed, especially her Jack.
Meta’s family wishes to give profound thanks to the angels of Honor Hospice and Chelsea Place who lovingly cared for our Darling in the last year of her life. The family suggests memorial donations be made to RSVP Program, Volunteers of America Colorado Branch, 2660 Larimer Street, Denver, CO 80205 Phone: (303) 297-0408.
I loved Mrs. Heiserman. She was my 3rd grade teacher at Ellis Elementary. I remember her kindness, her gentle pushes to be a better student and her caring attitude to all of her students. She touch so many lives. My love and condolences to her family. She will be missed.
So sorry for your loss! I remember going to your house on elm as a kid and helping build the garage in the back yard! She always called me to come visit with her while my dad and your dad worked on it! Not til years later did I learn that she did this to keep me busy and out of the way of the real workers! Good times! Great woman!!
Harking back to 1970 Meta (& Jack) were wonderful neighbors and friends, I have many
fond memories.
