Mary Spratte
November 16, 1929 ~ October 12, 2020
Golden— Mary Ann Spratte, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, died of natural causes
Monday, October 12, in Westminster, Colorado. She was 90.
She was known by her family for working hard and high standards in everything she did, whether as a
secretary for Atlantic Richfield and various law firms or as a devoted mother and grandmother. She
used her expert crafting skills to sew her children and grandchildren clothes, dolls, Bible covers, and
even sports card binders.
Above all, she will be remembered for listening and always being there for them when they needed it
most—whether you were ill, unemployed, or felt alone.
Mary Ann was born November 16, 1929, in Fort Collins to Marie Bopp and Gottlieb Monheiser—
Volga German immigrants from Russia. She grew up in Greeley, then later graduated high school at
Mount Loretto (Mercy Preparatory High School) in Council Bluffs, Iowa (class of 1947).
She married John LeRoy Spratte on January 19, 1953, in Denver. She followed her husband’s job
working for the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, moving to Aurora, Illinois, then
Albuquerque, when John joined American Telephone and Telegraph, then back to the Denver metro
area. She last lived in Golden.
Her oldest son, Thomas Mark Spratte, died in November 2018. She is survived by husband, John; son,
Michael; Bernard; daughter, Karen Annette Drinnon; and brother, Joe Monheiser. She is also survived
by grandchildren Andria Hinds, Amber Baker, Thomas Drinnon, Jaimie Spratte-Renfro, Tobin Spratte,
Kristen Prather, Kelly Bell, Johanna Spratte, and 19 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 26th, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with Recitation of the Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm at Stork-Bullock Family Mortuary. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, October 27th at Saint Joan of Arch in Arvada. Due to public health guidelines the church requires masks. Interment will follow the service at Fort Logan National Cemetery.
I had asked my Grandmother how she and Grandpa met. She said that they lived at a boarding home and that there was another girl there who had her eyes set on Grandpa, but Grandma was also interested in Grandpa. On the day of my Grandmother's passing, I asked my Grandpa about how he met Grandma. He said that they were at a boarding house and he noticed that one fellow kept talking to her and "I got rid of that fellow real quick." It is amazing that both of them wanted to be with the other right away.
