Dear Vissman Family, It was with a heavy heart that I heard the news of Martha's passing. She was such an example of an angel among us here on earth. I first met Martha when she came to a PTA meeting at Bear Creek K-8. She quickly showed that she was a ready, willing and able volunteer that could ALWAYS be counted on to pitch in. Later I discovered that she also attended our family's church, Christ on the Mountain, where she jumped right in as an active Women's Group member and volunteer. She and I had a bond in that while Isabella was fighting leukemia and was often at Children's Hospital my niece (who had suffered a severe brain injury) spent a great deal of time there as well. Martha was a champion at keeping her network of friends informed any time one of her beloved family members was in need of prayers and she worked just as tirelessly offering support and prayers whenever she heard about anyone else struggling. Her thoughtful cards and words of encouragement were always coming. She will be missed here on earth, but I take joy in the thought that her beautiful angel wings are now visible in Heaven.
Martha was my dear, dear friend. We met in 1971 when I was a social worker in Louisville. Martha and I had so many great times, it's hard to choose just one to share. We did, what we called "kitchen table therapy," long conversations discussing everything from how to raise our kids, get in–or out–of a relationship or find bargains. Even after years and miles separated us, we stayed in touch. Martha was good at staying in touch. Martha was good at a lot of things. She was funny. She was wise. But most of all, she was a good friend. The best. I cried buckets when I read of her passing. It brings me comfort to believe her lively spirit lives on. Rest in peace, my friend. I love you.
