Margery J. Mick
Margery Mick passed away peacefully in her home on July 23, 2016 of natural causes at the age of 94. She is survived by her son, James Mick and his wife, Karen Reed, and daughter and son-in-law Marilyn and Lonny Hargrave. Her son, David Mick, preceded her in death in 1989. She had three grandchildren, Lindsay Mick Watne, Hadley Mick, and Garrett Mick. She also had three great grandchildren.
She was born in 1922 in Deer Trail, CO to Earl and Laura Sheldon, raised in Englewood and graduated from Englewood High School in 1939. Following her high school graduation, Margery worked as a beautician and as a clerk for Montgomery Ward.
She married her husband of 64 years, Ray Mick, in 1941. When Ray went into the Navy during WWII, the couple moved to San Diego where Margery worked at Montgomery Ward. When Ray was transferred to Hawaii, Margery returned to Denver and her job at Montgomery Ward. Upon Ray's military release in 1945, the couple then started their family.
Margery and her family lived on a farm in Bear Valley until the silo toppled over and landed on the house, a major Mick Family Event. Ray then began working for Black & Decker in Denver. When he was promoted, the family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah. This began a series of moves that included Billings, MT, Denver again, Minneapolis, MN, St. Louis, MO, Chicago, IL and finally back to Denver in 1974. Margery worked as a bank teller in the Chicago area for 10 years. This was the work she always loved, second only to raising her children. After moving back to Denver, she changed careers by going to work for American Awning.
During their many moves, Margery managed to stay active in the church while caring for her kids. She most recently was a member of Harvey Park Christian Church. After Ray's passing in 2005 and after living alone for over 2 years, she married William Medes in 2007. Bill turned out to be the love of her later life and as a result, she and Bill were able to travel, dine out regularly and laugh....a lot! Bill lost his battle with cancer and passed away in 2008.
Because of failing health, her daughter and son-in-law moved in with her to provide round the clock help.
For the family, we will remember so many things- among them- everything she wore always matched and was perfectly coordinated at all times. In fact, when she worked as a teller in Deerfield, Illinois, she kept track of which outfit she wore on which day of the week to change it up enough so that any customer that routinely came into the bank on the same day of the week would never see her wearing the same outfit they might have seen the previous week.
