Maija ( Selma Marie) Ljunghag passed away peacefully in her sleep on 3/29/2019 at the age of 89. She was born in New York City on 5/18/1929 to Selma Lauman and Alex Laurell. She moved to Turku, Finland at the age of 3 with her sister Soineli, to live with extended family. She moved back to the United States at the age of 19. She attended Mount Sinai Hospital School of Nursing in New York City and graduated in 1953. She met her husband Arne in 1954 during a visit to relatives who lived in Denver, Colorado. They were married 4/9/1955 and moved into their home in Littleton, Colorado in 1958. Maija worked at several hospitals in the Denver area as an RN. She returned to school and obtained a BSN and  a master’s degree in Child and Family Health from the University of Colorado in 1977. She worked as a school nurse practitioner for Jefferson County Schools until retirement in 1993. She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was active in her church. She loved to read, listen to music, crochet, and to play bridge.

    She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Arne Ljunghag. She is survived by her sister Soineli (Erkki) Manninen and by  her children, Susan (Mike Worrell) Ljunghag, Christine (Matthew) Franklin, Stephen (Jennifer Heller) Ljunghag. She is also survived by her grandchildren Evan (Ashley) Ljunghag, Lauren (Cole Giandomenico) Ljunghag,  Joshua (Alyssa) Franklin, and by 4 great grandchildren as well as 3 nieces and 2 nephews.

    The memorial service will be on Thursday 5/2/2019 at 1 PM at Mission Hills Church, 620 SouthPark Drive, Littleton, Colorado, 80120. Friends who wish to make memorial contributions in Maija’s name can do so to:
