Madeline O’Neal was born on May 6, 1935, in Grayson, Kentucky, to James O’Neal and Madie Burton. She grew up on a farm in northeastern Kentucky in a large family of 11 brothers and sisters.
A few years after graduating high school Madeline married the love of her life, Jack Stephens, in 1956. They started their family in 1958 and Madeline enjoyed the Air Force life with Jack until he retired in 1973 when they settled down in Columbus, Ohio.
Madeline’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. She was a homemaker until her children got older and then worked outside the home primarily as a telephone operator in both private industry and with the Federal Government. She loved cooking, baking and decorating for the holidays.
Preceding Madeline in death were her parents, her daughter Monica Stephens and 11 brothers and sisters. Madeline is survived by her son Mark Stephens and his wife Miyon, grandson Patrick Stephens and his wife Vilma, granddaughter Jennifer Stephens, 5 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will take place in Columbus, Ohio at a later date.
Mom – I feel so blessed for all the years we had together. You were the best mom a son could have hoped for. Thank you for the love you always showed and the great memories that I will cherish and carry with me forever. You will be missed. Love, Mark
