Madelaine Michelle Schmidt
October 30, 1998 ~ April 10, 2023
Madelaine Michelle Schmidt was born on October 30, 1998 in Wheat Ridge, CO. She is the middle child of Mike and Becky, between her two brothers, William and Jack. She was certain and sure from the start
She was diagnosed with Lupus at the age of three after a year of struggle. It challenged her daily but never kept her from pursuing what she was passionate about.
She played soccer, basketball, volleyball, and golf. She was a dancer and baton twirler. Baton twirling was a love of hers. She competed at local, regional, and national competitions and loved performing.
Like many little girls, she wanted to be a teacher and that dream only intensified with time. At 14 years old, she volunteered with the City of Westminster at the Jessica Ridgeway Legacy Cheerleading Camp. There she met and forged a friendship with a special-needs camper that she worked with as one on one support. That is when she knew working with special needs kiddos was her path.
During her time at Pomona High School, she earned a Jeffco Internship that allowed her to work during her senior year in various special needs classrooms. She became steadfast in her passion and knew high school special education was where she needed to be. She graduated from Pomona in 2017.
Northern Arizona University became her college of choice. It is the “teachers college” in Arizona. The Lumberjack Marching Band allowed for twirlers and the football stadium has a dome to mitigate some of the environmental factors that would have worsened Lupus. She earned a spot on their twirling team and fell in love with the town of Flagstaff. She earned her B.S. in Special and Elementary Education and graduated in 2021.
She began working at Eaglecrest High School as the math and science component in their ILC (individual learning center). Working with her students was her joy. She continued to coach baton with Colorado Twirls and she coached unified bowling and C team girls soccer at Eaglecrest. She loved her students, friends, and especially her family. She pursued her relationship with God and had found a home at One Life. She taught herself to crochet and enjoyed making all kinds of crafts. She loved snacks, especially popcorn, TV shows: Blacklist, House, and Criminal Minds, Movies: Frozen and Ironman, and recently enjoyed learning to kickbox.
She is loved and will be deeply missed by her Father, Mother, and brothers. She will also be missed by her grandma, aunts, uncles, cousins, boyfriend David, and many other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents and her grandpa Schmidt.
