It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Linda Mary Elias, a cherished mother, grandmother, and friend, who left us on November 5 at the age of 78.

Linda was born in San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago to Azizi and Gabriel Tommy. Her life was an extraordinary journey across the world, filled with love, curiosity, and passion. She attended finishing school in Oxford, England and continued her studies in Dublin, Ireland. In 1969, she married the love of her life, Dr. Farid Joseph Elias, in the village of Ayoun Elwadi, Syria, after which they moved to Beirut, Lebanon. The couple created a warm and vibrant life together, filled with adventure and dreams of the future.

In 1977, with her husband and children, Linda immigrated to the United States, settling in Irwin, Pennsylvania, where she raised her family and built a life centered on love and community. She wasn’t just a homemaker; she was a lifelong learner, voracious reader, avid collector of art and antiquities, and disciplined participant in the stock market, with an endless drive for new knowledge. Her home was a place of warmth, filled with the scents of her homemade bread and incredible cooking, and she was known for welcoming family, friends, and neighbors at a moment’s notice with open arms and generous meals.

Linda had boundless energy and a passion for life that inspired all who knew her. She was predeceased by her husband, Farid, and is survived by her three devoted children, Joseph, Lillian, and Ramsey, nine beloved grandchildren and her sister Laurette Tannous. Her legacy lives on in their lives, her strength and curiosity forever guiding them. She will be deeply missed, yet her spirit will continue to be felt in the laughter, meals, and memories shared in her honor.

  21. The first time I met Linda she was tending to a giant stuffed pig on her kitchen counter. The first thing she said to me was. “Matt, your Dad is not fat, he looks fine”. She’s been my friend ever since. Her house was enveloped by wonderful aromas of foods from many cultures. I had a wonderful time on that trip though taking a train all the way across country is not for sissies. Conversations with Linda revealed how well read and smart she was. You always understood what her views were. Linda was a women of many talents. The world was a better place with her in it though it’s true that she was strong of will and opinion and sometimes a handfull. In those ways she reminded me alot of my maternal grandmother.   23. I shall remember Linda from her last years of life. I did not see her but I heard about her from her family. She seemed to be in a happier place …new friiends, , nice people who were her helpers…good food…and so on. I was so happy that she was in such a place. Now I think of her with prayers. She is in a lovely home.
