Lesley Jeanne Ogg, age 80, of Lakewood, Colorado, passed away on May 28, 2025.
Lesley was born on October 2, 1944, in Chestnut Hill, Pennsylvania, to Clyde and Harriet Ogg. She graduated from Beaver College (now Arcadia University) in Glenside, PA, and later moved to Colorado, where she built a life filled with dedication, warmth, and friendship.
She began her career as a physical education teacher and went on to become a longtime USA Gymnastics (USAG) judge, contributing her expertise and love of the sport for many years. She served in several USAG leadership positions including state chairman, regional technical chairman, and the state board. Lesley also worked as an Emergency Room Unit Secretary at Lutheran Hospital where she supported countless patients and staff.
Lesley especially loved to travel—cruises were a favorite—and she found great joy in spending time with her friends. She loved experiencing art and culture including the theater, symphony, and botanical gardens. She will be remembered for her generosity, her thoughtful nature, and her unwavering kindness to her family and friends.
She is survived by her sister, Connie Lee Dale; her niece, Barbara Dale Lech; and her nephew, James Steven Dale. Lesley was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Harriet; and her nephew, Robert Charles Dale.
A gathering will be held at a later date to celebrate Lesley’s life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, a cause that Lesley has supported over many years.
Lesley will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
There was a swing set with a trapeze, rings, swing and low bar that we played on all the time. No wonder Lesley was into gymnastics, all the tools to learn were in her yard. Lesley was always sharing with me. She taught me how to use drumsticks by beating on a piece of wood, how to throw a baton (she was in band), and how to dive backwards off a springboard (they had a pool!!). I must have spent a lot of time at the Ogg’s house because Lesley taught me how to play the piano, how to use a yo-yo, and how to spin a top. She lent me her Nancy Drew books–she had the entire collection! She showed me what short-hand looked like which became a lifetime skill for her while judging gymnastics.
In 1970, Lesley and I drove to Colorado together in her Pontiac Sunbird convertible. She was going to Boulder to attend CU grad school and I was going to Ft. Collins to attend CSU. She introduced me to one of her PE students from Springfield HS, Mary, who was also starting college at CSU. Mary and I have been best friends ever since. I even met my husband through Mary. Webs of life.
Lesley lived in Lakewood, in the same townhouse, for over 50 years. She loved her home and her neighbors. I never heard her say a negative or mean thing about anyone! She was organized, precise and generous. We exchanged Christmas cards, had lunch together, and stayed in touch over all these years. It is so sad to think we will not see each other again, in person, but she will always be here. I am so thankful that she passed away peacefully, without having to endure chronic illness or the inability to enjoy all the things she loved to do. My condolences to Barb and her family, Connie, and Lesley’s Iowa cousins. She will be missed.
