April 12, 1926 ~ March 9, 2015
Leona Marie Morgan Fly: April 12, 1926 - March 9, 2015 Leona Marie Morgan Fly: warm-hearted giver, spirited adventurer, persevering woman of strength, and general lover of life went to be with her Lord on March 9, 2015. At a young age, her adventurous spirit drew her to Tom Fly, a young pilot who became her husband. Tom helped her see the world. The more years they were together, the more they protected each other, cared for each other and loved the memories and life they made together for fifty-two years. After seeing the world, she lived many years in the place she loved the most; beautiful Colorado. With majestic mountains and Colorado sunsets. From a soft Colorado snow to spring flowers and busy humming birds. Whether it was a peaceful deer lying by her window or a curious mama bear and cubs strolling by her window, Leona loved God's gifts of nature. Her three brothers and six sisters were also a very big part of her life. All seven sisters especially had a bond that could not be shaken. For 88 years, she stood by them no matter what was going on in their lives. She and her sister Faye even got married the same year and had their first babies together in 1958! Leona loved the family's three German Shepherds. Indy was her 100 lb. German Shepherd who looked to her for affection, treats - and even protection when he knew he had done something wrong and he was in trouble! He knew when it was time for her to go to bed and colluded with her for cookies before turning in. Leona had an amazing heart. One of the things that brought her much happiness was spreading joy to others with unexpected and meaningful gifts. Once she retired, she began crocheting beautiful shawls for nursing home residents and cancer treatment patients, carefully choosing bright cheery colors. Yes, Leona had a fire and strength that could not be denied. They always say ‘God won't give you what you can't handle', and handle things, Leona did. As a third time cancer survivor, she not only dealt with it, she persevered...and she won again and again. At one point, when asked how she was, she simply stated, "All is well with my soul." It was words like this that spoke to Leona's belief in God, and gave comfort to those who loved her dearly. Over the last few days, as the family talked of what we believe Heaven is like, we would like to believe that music is always playing. If this is true, we are pretty certain that her husband Tom, her siblings who went before, and her parents had the perfect songs queued up and ready for her arrival. Leona loved music. Her days were full when she could listen to her Christian music, played her favorite hymns on the piano and sing along. Leona would spontaneously sing, dance or laugh! So, as we celebrate Leona's life today we would end her tribute by saying: "You've earned the wings of an angel with the many lives and loves you so beautifully touched. Now, it's time to celebrate - so by all means - go SING AND DANCE!"
