Leland G. Shelton December 13, 1934-October 20, 2011 Son of Glen and Stella (Wheeler) Shelton, Leland was born with a happy heart and a zest for life. He grew up in Centralia, IL, near many relatives and enjoyed a typical small-town boyhood. He received a degree in Education (Math and English) and a Masters in School Supervision and Administration from Southern Illinois University. He married Joan Bramlet in 1959 when they were young teachers. They moved to Elgin, IL, to continue teaching. Two daughters were born and while Joan "retired" Leland was recruited by Scott Foresman Company (textbook publishing) where he advanced from sales to an officer in marketing and advertising. He loved it and the family moved to Deerfield, IL, a wonderful place to live with good schools and a friendly supportive neighborhood. Life brought many surprises which Leland welcomed as opportunities. His openness to change coupled with his positive outlook created an exciting and varied career and a full happy life for his family. The path of his life was a marvelous surprise and he was so grateful for all he received. Leland loved life, enjoying the small moments. He was a committed family guy. He loved people, was kind, generous and helpful. Survivors include his wife, Joan, daughter Susan and her family Geoff Barsch, Adam 19 and Jack 15. Daughter Karen and her family Tom McCall, Grant 19, Chase 11, Will 9 and Isabelle 7. His brother William "Bill" Shelton and his wife, Jan, and numerous nieces and nephews who enjoyed his wit and warmth. His life will be celebrated at Shepherd of the Hills Presbyterian Church at 2 p.m., October 29th.
