Lawrence R. Johnston (Larry), age 84, passed away peacefully May 6, 2011, in the presence of family at Porter Hospice in Centennial, Colorado.
Larry was born to Katherine (McIntyre) and Vernon Johnston on May 26, 1926, in Clayworks, Iowa. He is preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, two sisters and his wife of 40 years, Carol (Sabus).
Larry was a proud veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy. He was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus and a strong supporter of St. Michael’s Catholic School, the Abbey School and St Scholastica’s Academy in Canon City, Colorado, where he and Carol raised their family. Larry was a baseball coach to his sons and many other children throughout his life. He supported his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in many activities and was their biggest fan.
Larry was a dedicated husband and devoted father to eight children who survive him, Anne McFarland (Jim), Linda Ferguson (Karl), David Johnston (Janice), Ron Johnston (Kelly), Joan Bradbury (Hadley), Alan Johnston (Michelle), Janet Murray, Connie Eule (Jeff), 23 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters, Mary Carter and Jan Feitz. His family was his greatest joy. He will be greatly missed by them and those who knew him.

Funeral Mass will be Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at 11:00 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Centennial, Co.
