Lauren Elizabeth Guthrie
March 16, 2001 ~ June 6, 2019
Lauren Elizabeth Guthrie was born March 16, 2001 at Rose Medical Center in Denver, Colorado. She passed away on June 6, 2019. She is survived by her immediate family: father Rob Guthrie, mother Susie Guthrie (Hampton), sister Sarah, and brother Josh; her grandparents, Bob Guthrie, Ruth and Wells Hampton, and Ann and Jim Meiggs; her aunts and uncles, Kim and David Nowlin, Mike and Ann Schafer-Meiggs, David Meiggs, Julie Hampton, Mike Naddra, and Kristina Naddra; her cousins Olivia, Adam, Audrey and Ava. She is preceded in death by her grandmother Pam Guthrie.
She recently graduated from Cherry Creek High School as a Principal’s Top Ten Scholar. She was a member of the Cherry Creek climbing team, finishing as 11th best climber in the state. She was an Adventure Leader at her school, leading classes for students to grow their skills in outdoor adventure and leadership. Lauren worked with Colorado Young Leaders (CYL) for 3 years, a volunteer group, and became a member of their Youth Advisory Board. She avidly worked with CYL to organize a program aimed at decreasing the negative stigma around teen mental health and suicide. She was an active member in the Cherry Creek Eco-Action club, a club with the goal of helping communities go green. With this group, she went as a volunteer for a week installing solar panels on a Native American reservation outside of Spokane, WA, having just returned on June 1.
Lauren was planning to attend the University of Colorado at Boulder to study Environmental Engineering and was a President’s Leadership Class Scholarship recipient. She was ready to leave for a month-long expedition in the mountains of Wyoming with National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).
Lauren lived her life to the fullest. She took everyday and embraced it. She packed more into her 18 years than many pack into a lifetime. She was kind, smart, hard working, funny, empathetic, and a dedicated friend. Our hearts break with her passing, but knowing that she made a positive impact on the lives of her friends, her community, and the environment ensures us that she will never be forgotten.
A celebration of her life will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church, 4500 E. Hampden Avenue in Englewood, on Monday, June 17 at 10am.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lauren’s honor to the charity of your choice or to the Lauren Guthrie Make a Difference Fund.

Earlier this year we had the unique pleasure of meeting Lauren and her siblings. We had a wonderful dinner in Cabo San Lucas with Rob, Lauren and the twins. After the dinner, it was clear to my wife I that Rob and Susie were gifted parents to have raised such wonderful children. It was clearly evident to us that Lauren was special in many ways. Full of passion, love, and ideas. She was and still is God's gift.

I was so very lucky to have met Lauren in elementary school. She was such a bright light and a truly special person. I will never forget the way she welcomed me with open arms when I was feeling alone. She will forever hold a place in my heart. I am so thankful that I was able to share part of the extraordinary 18 years of life with her. She was such a phenomenal person and I'm grateful that I could witness her gracing the world with her presence. I am so devastated and my heart hurts for the Guthrie family. My thoughts are with you.

I heard a saying once, "A light that shines twice as bright can last only 1/2 as long". Lauren was the brightest light our family will treasure forever. It will lighten our darkest days and show us the way to go forward. Thank you for sharing her with us. Our journey together as families will continue with her dreams as our inspiration. With much love, Stephanie Tony, Casey, Natalie and Jake
