Larry L. Zipse

larry zipse

Larry was born on Oct 1, 194l in Waterloo Iowa to Ellsworth and Imelda Zipse. Larry passed away on Jan. 3l, 2014 from complications with COPD and the flu. He enjoyed growing up in a small town, fishing and hunting. In 1954 the family moved to Denver. He graduated with the class of 1959 from West High school. In June of 1959 he joined the Navy. He was part of an all Colorado company that included a number of his friends. He was able to see many parts of the world. He was in the Navy for 3 1/2 years. After his release from the Navy, Larry went to work as a 'janitor' for the old 'Ma Bell' system. Luckily he was able to move up in the company, as cleaning toilets etc. was not his thing. Using the skills he acquired in the Navy he was able to move up to a technician. This was a career that spanned until his retirement in 1999 from AT&T. Larry was a member of the Westwood Lions Club for over 30 years. He held a number of positions during that time. In 1995 the club began scanning preschool and kindergarten student's eye sight. He really enjoyed those little kids plus helping parents recognize their child's eye problems. The picture on this sight shows a 5 point buck that he was especially proud of. He got him a couple years ago. He also got a number of elk, antelope and other deer that had to adorn the walls of the family room. Golfing, camping and fishing were among his other interests. Larry is survived by his wife Sandy, his sons Steve of Alvin TX, Doug (Robin) of Coeur d'Alene, ID. Three Granddaughters Tiffany (John) Field of Sandpoint, ID, Jessica Zipse of Moscow, ID, and Courtney (Dan) Scherling of Coeur d'Alene, ID. Two Great Granddaughters Abigail Black and Kristen Scherling of Coeur d'Alene, ID. Sisters Patricia Cooper and Anita Zipse. Stephanie Wommack and children Amanda and Jessica. Also a host of relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Brandon on Jan. 6, 2014. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
