Kevin Wright Everson

December 31, 1980 ~ February 20, 2023
Kevin Wright Everson, 42, of Salida, Colorado passed away on February 20, 2023. Kevin was born in
Denver, Colorado on New Year’s Eve 1980 to Glenn & Marcia Everson. Although he was born two
months early and weighed just shy of 4lbs, Kevin’s presence from that day on was bigger than life.
Kevin was a loving & devoted father to Everett Myrl Everson. Kevin is survived by his son Everett; fiancé
Inez; father Glenn; mother Marcia; brother Perry (Beth); sister Laura (Nathan); niece Sophia; nephews
Brandon & Michael (Isma); and too many friends to count, including Ken & Eileen Brown.
Kevin grew up in Littleton, Colorado. After high school, Kevin was part of the Lakewood Police Explorer
program and worked as a Security Guard. Following a few years as a Security Guard, Kevin went to
Denver Automotive & Diesel College, where he received his automotive technician certification.
While he enjoyed being under the hood of cars & worked in an automotive repair shop for a couple
years, Kevin fulfilled a life-long dream of becoming a Law Enforcement Officer when he joined the
Chaffee County Sheriff’s Department in 2006. While with the Sheriff’s Department, Kevin founded the
Chaffee County Sherriff Explorer Program. Kevin was with the Sheriff’s Department for 8 years and
moved to the Salida Police Department in 2014. In March 2015, Kevin and his then-wife Erica,
welcomed their beloved son Everett. There was nothing that Kevin loved more than being Everett’s dad.
Together, they enjoyed going to Bandimere Speedway to watch car races, building Legos, flying their
drone, riding ATVs, and watching movies. Following his time with the Salida Police Department, Kevin
went back to the automotive industry, joining the team at Faricy Boys dealership in Salida, CO.
Kevin had the magnetic personality to make friends anywhere he went, and a witty sense of humor that
would cause even strangers to double over in laughter. As a Law Enforcement Officer and personally,
Kevin had a commitment to doing what was right and serving those in need; everyone would agree that
Kevin’s heart was two sizes too big.
Kevin was a truly loving and generous man, whose impact will be forever felt by his family and friends.
He was a genuinely kind-hearted person whose passing left an unfillable void in the hearts of his loved
ones. He may be gone, but he will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched, for nothing
loved is ever lost – and he was loved so very much.
A Memorial Service for Kevin will be held on Thursday, May 11th at 1:00pm
Grace Church
1320 D Street
Salida, CO 81201
Kevin was the best! Always treated people with respect. He was a very nice person, a good guy! Very sorry to see you go, cousin Kevin. I'm sorry I didn't keep in touch, as I should have. Didn't know you were hurting like that.

I always looked forward to spending time with Kevin. From hanging in the garage, riding motorcycles, game nights, playing in the snow or soaking at Mt Princeton. We miss you already.

The last time I interacted here on Facebook was last November. The last time I texted him was this past January.
It was not until today that I discovered his passing when I thought to myself, "It's been too long since I've chatted with Kevin. I wonder how he's doing; I am going to look him up and send him one of my hundreds of inappropriate jokes to get him to laugh and catch up."
For me, today is a very sad day.
I first met Kevin back in 1998. We were both Lakewood Police Explorers together. My first thought was, "Who is this hilarious dude who loves his red Dodge Neon a little too much?"
A couple years later, as the Assistant Director of Public Safety at Southglenn Mall, I would hire my good friend to work security with me. While I knew he would make an outstanding security officer, I hired him for selfish reasons; I wanted a person with his light to come work with me.
Me and Kevin's paths would separate but our trajectories would remain the same. He and I would both go into trade professions – he into automotive, me into technology. We would both then decide to pursue our first love of law enforcement.
He and I would both attend the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Facility for our POST certifications (different classes) and become law enforcement officers.
While I hope his life was better with me in it, I can say with certainty that my life was immensely better because I met Kevin, worked with Kevin, and was friends with Kevin.
He was one of the best people I've ever had the privilege to call friend, and this world is running all too short on quality people who value, love, and respect people who are both familiar or complete strangers. Kevin was great at that.
I will miss him a great deal.
