Kathleen Smith

October 14, 2006
Kathleen was born in Laredo, Texas. Her parents owned a florist shop and Kathleen and her two sisters, Edna & Jane, and her brother Ed all worked in the family business. Kathleen developed an early interest in flying, soloing at 16 years of age, becoming the youngest pilot in the region. She served in the Marine corps. during WWII, but since women were not allowed to fly at that time, she functioned as a link trainer. Kathleen married Clayton Smith and gave birth to three sons: Clayton, Jim and Steve; and one daughter, Vicky who presently lives in New York. Her three sons live in the Metro area. She also has three grandchildren; Emily, Natalie and Brent. In her mid - 50's, Kathleen went to college and in two years, she earned an associate degree. She has always remained dedicated to her family, enjoying family affairs, and at times being called "Aunt Kay" by some of her nieces and nephews.
