June Smith Mallory died peacefully Monday morning, February 9, 2015, at Collier (Lutheran) Hospice in Wheat Ridge, Colorado. She was 98. She was preceeded in death by her husband of 61 years, William Wyman Mallory, and her parents, Sam Smith and Elsie Erxleben Smith, and is survived by sons David Wyman Mallory and Richard Smith Mallory. June grew up in East Orange, New Jersey, and graduated from Barnard College in 1937. She worked at Columbia University, where she met her husband, whom she married in 1942. In 1944 the couple moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma, where Bill worked for Phillips Petroleum Company, and where their two sons were born. In 1953, the family moved to Wheat Ridge, and in 1961, to Lakewood. June worked for many years for Applewood Mesa Realty and enjoyed being involved in the planning, decorating, and sale of homes in Applewood Mesa. She also enjoyed decorating and furnishing her own homes and their mountain houses in Georgetown and Silver Plume, Colorado. June was also a founder and long-time member of the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists Auxiliary. June is remembered by many for her intelligence, grace, and desire to make all feel welcome. In her later years and at her bedside in death, she received much loving assistance from Deborah Elea. A gathering to celebrate June's life is pending.
