Judith Marie "Judy" Evans

Judy was born March 2, 1937 at Mercy Hospital in Denver, Colorado to Dr. Hayde W. and Mary Katherine “Kay” Crowell. She grew up in Estes Park with her brothers John D. “Jack,” Thomas P. “Tommy,” and sister Katherine D. “Jill” (Daniel Mahoney). The Crowell clan took frequent trips to Denver to visit Kay’s large extended family.

After graduating from Estes Park High School, Judy attended Colorado State University in Ft. Collins until the travel and adventure bug bit. Judy moved to Sun Valley, Idaho where she worked serving coffee and drink to the likes of Ernest Hemingway. From there, she answered a newspaper ad to bring a Norwegian motor-life boat from Europe to North America. She and the rest of the crew sailed the Bay of Biscaye, the Mediterranean with stops in Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Gibraltar, parts of north Africa, and finally across the Atlantic Ocean. After 43 days to cross the Atlantic (and a total of eight months at sea), they arrived in Puerto Rico, where Judy found she got a bit “land sick” after being at sea for such a lengthy period of time.

Upon returning home to Colorado, Judy began working for JCPenny Credit Bureau in Denver. She was an adoring and loving aunt to many nieces and nephews. Judy then began a whirlwind romance with Richard L. “Dick” Evans. After dating for just four months, they were married in December of 1968. They were happily married for over 44 years.

Judy became a mother to Pamela K. “Pam” in 1970. This lead to many other jobs: Girl Scout leader, soccer coach, music champion, homeroom parent, sideline cheerleader, teacher’s aide to mention just a few. Judy loved to teach the value of a good adventure, no matter how big or small. She and Dick embraced their shared Celtic heritage, becoming regulars on the Highland Games circuit and traveling to Scotland. Eventually, Judy got the highly acclaimed job of grandmother.

Judy died peacefully in her sleep July 2, 2013. She is survived by her husband Richard, daughter Pam, son-in-law, Spencer, grandchildren Devon and Griffin and numerous nieces, nephews, godchildren, cousins and friends.
