Joyce Rafelita Martinez
January 14, 1961 ~ July 17, 2024
Joyce Rafelita Martinez gained her angel wings on July 17, 2024, with her loving family by her side. Joyce’s legacy of love began on January 14, 1961, in Denver, Colorado.
Joyce had an infectious smile and joyous spirit. She transformed the lives of everyone she encountered with her limitless love. She had a passion for life, and had a creative flair for crafting and decorating. She found pleasure in planting beautiful flowers and vegetable gardening. She had a playful side to her, and was fond of board games, playing cards, and gambling. She was also an avid Denver Bronco’s fan.
She was an Operations Supervisor at Children’s Hospital for over 20 years and will be missed by her co-workers.
Joyce was a devoted Mother and Nana to her grandchildren. She doted on her grandchildren in all their achievements whether it was sports, handyman skills, or school activities.
Joyce dearly loved her family, and will continue to live on forever in their hearts and minds. She is preceded in death by her father Perfecto Martinez, and brother Dominic Martinez. Joyce is survived by her children Johnathon Sanchez (Incy), Janelle Bonilla (Hector), Janea Sanchez (Rosy), and Jasmine Sanchez. Her beloved grandchildren Jeremiah, Deztany, Josiah, Jenesis, Giovanni, Amari, and great grandchild Alaia. Her mother Juanita Martinez, and siblings Faith Palomino (Benjamin), Annette Martinez, Gary Martinez (Ramel), and Darrell Martinez (Nora). As well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

It’s a very hard thing to lose someone close to you. Something that I totally understand. So hard to see such a kind person gone so soon. May each person that her life touched be blessed by the most high God. may the Lord be with and strengthen every friend or family member connected.

To say that I’m going to miss my Best Friend of 45+ years doesn’t even begin to describe the loss I feel. We have been through so many life events of the births of our children, relationships, profound losses, sickness and so much joy too. Joyce is the reason I came to know Jesus and because of her, we will see each other again In heaven! I’ll be seeing you in my dreams my Bestie. 💔
Joyce you changed my life when we met in 4th grade when you offered your friendship to a goofy and lonely little white girl! We would play Barbies for hours stealing Faith’s make up and learning how t9 dance with Annette! It was you who gave me a family with brothers and sisters to interacted with, yup I was there like a 7th kid for my dear Juanita to watch after. Those wear the best years of my life thanks to you. I was lucky enough to have that friendship and to see you start your family, to see you run a business, I still miss Rafelita’ s ( whose idea was that?! Lol what can I say the name made sense!). What is sad is that we didn’t stay closer as we got older I always thought we’d reconnect other than on Facebook and now i’ll never have that chance for that I am sorry my friend. My heart goes out to the family in ways I cannot express. Love and Light, Renee
One of the sweetest lady’s I’ve known, Joyce was always the nicest to me and my family, we love you and we are very blessed to have known you and been able to share family’s once Jonathan came into my sister’s life! We are on this earth for such a short time and hopefully we leave a lasting impact on the ones we love, and I know you have ❤️
I had the privilege and honor of working with Joyce at Children’s. She taught me a lot as my first leadership role there. She took so much pride in her work and we are forever grateful for her commitment and dedication. She will be missed dearly. Thoughts and prayers to her family. Love, Sadaf
It was a pleasure to have you in our lives. Fly with the angels. Love, Cori
Sorry for your loss. She will always be with you
Dear Martinez Family members & Friends of Joyce, I extend my sincere condolences to each of you. Joyce was a pillar for me during a time when I needed a shoulder to lean on. We keep in touch over the past 30 years and never wavered from where we last left our conversations. I will miss Joyce always. And now I miss here even more as our phone calls are no more. Joyce had a heart of genuine care and kindness. Her laughter was the cutest and that looked she’d give when she wanted to say more yet held back. Your grace will forever be in my heart my dear friend. Rest in Paradise.
