John W. Lindauer

John William Lindauer, 87, of Highlands Ranch passed away on April 30, 2012.  He was born in Fairfield, Iowa, on June 13, 1924 to Willard Paul and Marie Gowey Lindauer.  

John briefly attended Iowa State College before enlisting in the US Army Air Corp in 1943.  From 1943 to 1944, he studied meteorology at Pomona College.  He discharged from the Army Air Corps as a Sergeant after serving in the Pacific Theater – stationed on the island of Tinian and in Japan.  

John returned to Iowa State College in 1946 and became a fraternal member of Phi Kappa Psi.  On September 5, 1947 he married Mary Catherine Guthrie.  In 1948, John earned his BS in General Engineering. 

John and Cathy moved to Portland, Oregon in 1950, where John began a long and successful career with General Electric, in sales and management.  He retired in 1987 as District Manager for the Rocky Mountain Region with General Electric Medical Systems.

 Both during his working years and after, John served in several leadership positions with their churches, most recently with Hope United Methodist Church.  He and Cathy traveled extensively with their children, then to visit their families, as well as outside the country. 

John is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Mary Ann Callan.  He is survived by his wife Catherine Guthrie Lindauer and their children – Christine (Dave) Kilpatrick of Wales, WI; Bill (Shelley) Lindauer of Logan, UT; and Steven (Katie) Lindauer of Highlands Ranch, CO.  John and Cathy have 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. 

A memorial service will be held at Hope United Methodist Church (5101 S. Dayton Street, Greenwood Village) Saturday, May 5th at 11 AM.  Private interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Hope United Methodist Church, The Denver Hospice, National Parkinson Foundation or Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc.
