February 29, 1928 ~ September 14, 2013
Jesse Lee Moore, Jr. was born February 29, 1928 in Woodlawn, Texas to Jesse Lee and Catherine (Peden) Moore. He passed away on September 14, 2013 in Englewood, Colorado. He is survived by his son Daniel Lee Moore of Vancouver, Washington, his siblings Barbara (Leon) Rowlett and Watson (Shirley) Moore as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He graduated from Toyah High School in 1945 in far west Texas. In 1946 he joined the U.S. Navy where he served for two years in San Diego, California. After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Navy he attended Texas Technological College where he graduated in 1952 with a business administration degree with a major in accounting.
Mr. Moore worked for Llano Drilling Company in Midland, Texas and then moved to Forest Oil Corporation (the parent company) where he worked in both Houston, Texas and Denver, Colorado. He retired from Forest Oil Corporation in 1986.
He married Reba Hawthorne on June 20th, 1958 in Midland, Texas.
He was a lifelong Texas Tech Red Raiders fan and was an active member of the Denver area Texas Tech alumni association. He always watched them when they played on television and attended many games in person.
Mr. Moore loved the Rocky Mountains and in particular loved Rocky Mountain National Park. He visited the park many times per year, sometimes more than once a week. He loved to watch, and listen, to the elk while in the park. He spent many hours with his spotting scope in the park watching the elk and other wild life. He was always glad to let strangers look through the scope and help them enjoy the wonders that he saw in the mountains.
Given the terrible flooding in the mountains that he loved it is requested that donations to flood relief be made in lieu of flowers.
