Carmel Catholic Parish Hall - 3549 Navajo St., Denver, CO 80211 Jeff was born in Denver, Colorado and grew up in North Denver, enjoying a wonderful childhood - having fun, teasing his sister Gina, giving his Mom and Dad a hard time, and looking up to his older brothers and sisters, while also giving them a hard time being a 'little brother'. Jeff was a mean lineman for the famous Rough Riders of North Denver, where he not only provided protection for the 'skill' players but gave the offense fits while at nose guard. He attended Horace Mann Jr. High School, where he sang in the choir and had a successful but brief acting gig at Fall Festival. Jeff also was a Viking at Denver North High School, where he wrestled and played football and thoroughly enjoyed the High School experience. Jeff attended and was an altar boy at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, where his morning hunger overwhelmed him which led him to occasionally eat un-consecrated hosts before mass, and rumor has it he may have had a few sips of unconsecrated wine. As a young teenager, Jeff learned a strong work ethic from our Pop, learning maintenance of way while working a track crew building the narrow-gauge railroad (the old fashioned way) for the Georgetown Loop RR on weekends. He also helped our Pop transport the 'Old 71' narrow gauge steam engine from Central City to the entrance of the old Harvey's Casino. Jeff also had a passion and mastered being a very good cook - he made exquisite Mexican food, using our mom's recipes, and hot-wings leaving everyone who had the privilege to savor and experience these culinary delights wanting more. Jeff's primary career was working as a union plumber, working in many job sites in the metro-area, including Sports Authority Field at Mile-High. He loved his work an took great pride in quality workmanship and customer satisfaction. Jeff's hobbies included a love for music, especially classic R&B, and Old School. He could identify any song and artist with just a few notes! Jeff loved to hunt and fish, enjoying the beautiful world God gave us. He spent many trips with his brother Ralph having a great time and being the best 'camp cook' they ever had. Jeff was a good soul and gave back to his community by assisting and counseling disabled patients at Denver Health Medical Center, and St. Anthony's Central Hospital. He inspired many patients to never give up and live life to the fullest. Jeff is survived by his loving mother and father Jennie and Ralph Martinez Sr., sisters Carol (Bob) Warren of AZ, Dorothy Martinez, Gina (Don) Melvin, brothers Ralph (Nancy) Martinez Jr., and Ernie (Gloria) Martinez. Jeff is also survived by many caring and loving nieces and nephews, and numerous friends. He also leaves a wonderful, caring lady in his life, a person who made his last years the most happy and rewarding time he has had - the lovely Rhonda Grant. Jeff's final gift was to donate tissue organs to those who will benefit from his generosity. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Diabetes Association.
