Jay Burton Huiting
Burton Huiting was born January 20, 1933 in Cawker City, KS to Jay and Lily Huiting. He attended one room country schools through 8th grade and graduated from Downs, KS High School in 1950.
Burt enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1952 and served until June 1955. He married Jessie Gesink in August 26, 1955. He attended Adams State College in Alamosa where he earned his teaching degree. He furthered his education at several colleges and universities by National Science Foundation Scholarships.
Burton began teaching at Denver Christian in 1958 where he taught Biology, Earth Science and Drivers Ed. He began a wrestling program and served as coach for 10 years. Mr. Huiting impacted many young lives. He retired in 1988. After retirement, Burt enjoyed the challenge of reviving and reconditioning dead lawn mowers, which happily went back to work for their owners. He set high standards for himself and his family.
Burton and Jessie had four children: Gerrit, Jay, Lindabeth, and Brian. Lindabeth preceded her father in death in 1995.
Burton served as elder numerous times. His faith and Christian life were of utmost importance to him. His wife and constant companion, Jessie, was the love and light of his life and supported him to the end.
Following a lengthy illness, our husband, father, brother and friend is in the loving arms of the Everlasting God.
Even though it has been ages since our families were together, our thoughts & prayers are with yours during your time of loss. May your memories of Burton be sweet & many.

We are sorry to hear about Burt's homegoing, yet comforted to know family & friends will see him again ! I first knew him as "Mr. Huiting" when he graciously helped me through Biology and then answered my eager questions in Earth Science class at Denver Christian. I never knew learning could be so fun !
I lived only a couple blocks away during that time, and then later met Burt through my wife Barb and her hometown Kansas connection. We'd meet Burt at church in Dispatch and joke that we had to go back to Kansas to see Colorado folks. I thoroughly enjoyed Burt as teacher and later as friend. All our best to the Huiting family, and thank you for sharing Burt's life with so many ! I look forward to meeting him again !
Sincerely, Mike (& Barb) Rhoda
I am so blessed to have been taught by such a Godly, kind-hearted and and skilled teacher. He truly was one of my favorites at DCHS and to hear that he has been received into the arms of the Lord brought so many wonderful memories to mind. I am saddened to hear of the loss of such a wonderful man but I am so thankful to have been influenced and taught by a man of his caliber. Holding all of you in our thoughts and prayers.
I have so very many memories of Burt–from high school classes to family outings. He could be scary, but he challenged us as students to do our best and rewarded us with the smile of confidence that he knew we could do it. He could laugh large and be mystified by his daughter and friend's endless giggles. He loved his work, his family, his Lord. I'm grateful that he was a part of my life. Blessings to all as you celebrate his life and mourn his death.

Mr. Huiting was one of my favorite teachers at DC. He had a passion for science that made it come alive. He also was a great example of what it meant to be a Christian. My condolences to all of you and may the Lord comfort you during this difficult time.
Mr. Huiting was one of the true north points on my compass of life. Mr. Huiting introduced me to focusing my future in the direction I have not wavered from in almost three decades. He was the one who taught me to drive, understand the foundations of sciences, respectfully communicate, allowed me to raise various fish and animals in his classroom, and how to occasionally dodge flying chalk board erasers! I am thankful I was blessed with the opportunity to be one of his students.
The world was made a better place by Mr. Huiting.
My sincere sympathies to your family. Mr. Huiting was one of my favorite teachers at DCHS and when his death was announced today in church, it just hit me. Please take comfort in our Lord and his mercies during this difficult time. Mark Afman
The world has lost a great Christian man and heaven has gained one terrific soul. Mr. Huiting not only taught me lessons in science, he taught me honesty, humility and justice. My sympathies to all of his family.
We have lost a great man but we know he is now in the presence of his Lord. Mr. Huiting was one of my favorite teachers at Denver Christian and he made learning science (not my favorite subject!) fun to learn and we wanted to learn for him. He not only loved what he taught, but he loved each and every student and took the time to speak into our lives. We loved Mr. Huiting's funny saying he would throw in there to make sure we were listening. He graciously put his life in our hands when he taught Driver's Ed. That takes a special kind of bravery!!!! 🙂 He never made us feel stupid or dumb, but always lovingly guided us and corrected us! Our thoughts and prayers go out to Huiting family. SO MANY were blessed just by knowing him!
My sympathies to Burt's family. Burt was a great man and will be missed. He touched and molded many lives as our teacher for so many years. I enjoyed him as a teacher in school, coach in wrestling, and also as my Driver's Ed teacher. I remember his briefcase in the back seat to monitor if we were stopping gradually enough to keep it from hitting the back of the front seats. I also remember skidding thru a red light as my inexperience and hesitation brought us too close to the red light and I stepped on the gas and he pushed his brake pedal. So glad he has gone to be with his Lord for the rest of days.

Thank you to Mr Huiting
Those of us in Mr Huiting's home room class that were poor students got a special gift. We would"catch" much about life and how to survive . Mr Huiting was a macho guy that nobody messed with, but underneath we saw a warm ,caring, self sacrificing man that many of us truly admired. I will never forget his lecture on drugs and how some drugs taken one time could destroy a persons life ,something he had personally witnessed in the navy. Pretty good information for a 15 yr old in the 1960's
I think most of the students understood that it was a financial sacrifice for a teacher to be there. Many many thanks to Mr Huiting and especially now his family. God Bless
May God's spirit of comfort and peace rest upon Mr. Huiting's Family and Friends. We know Burt's faith in Jesus our savior has lifted him to heaven.
From Mr. Huiting when I was a high schooler to Burt in recent years when he visited Dispatch, KS, he truly was an inspiration to me. My father taught me to love the beauty of creation, but Mr. Huiting put science and the outdoors together and let me enjoy both facets as a wildlife biologist for 30+ years now.
I will always remember his laugh, his smile, and his enthusiasm for students and friends. I will always treasure my memories of Denver Christian and I will never forget Mr. Huiting as my favorite teacher, coach and friend.
God Bless you all as you mourn his passing.
Mr. Huiting was a gifted teacher. I loved his biology classes and was a biology major in college for several years largely due to his influence. My condolences to his family – you are all in my prayers.
Blessings,

The five biologists in the Pals household are part of the legacy of Mr. Huiting due to his influence in my high school years. Memories of him playing "freeze-out" in 1st period biology, driving the volleyball team bus to games, and naming cattle guards during Driver's Ed come to mind. He pointed out nature's wonders during a field trip to what most of us thought was just a weedy patch on Buchtel. May he rest in peace and enjoy God's presence. Thoughts and prayers to his family.
Dear Coach,
Well, you finally made it out of here and on to a better place; you have won the battle! I think we all have regrets in life, as do I. One that will always be near the top of the list will be not saying the things that God has laid on my heart when He does so. Regrettably, this is one of those times.
I never took the time to tell you that you were a great wrestling coach and how much I appreciated your drive and determination; it was infectious. You were a good teacher, but I hated biology, so I won't hold that against you. I also believe you were a good man and I wish I'd taken the time to get to know you better, but I didn't, and I consider that my loss. To Jessie and family, please accept my sincere condolences. Until we meet again, God bless you and keep you in his ever-present care.
Sincerely, Tom Lenderink
